Former Democratic MPs have criticised a recent meeting between core members of Thailand's Move Forward party and foreign envoys as diplomatically inappropriate and an attempt to interfere in Thailand’s internal affairs.

Rachada Dhnadirek, a former Bangkok MP, urged the government, particularly the Foreign Ministry, to react immediately to protect Thailand’s dignity and interests.

“How can the Foreign Ministry allow the foreign envoys to receive only one-sided information? The ministry should respond to the matter,” she said.

Pita Limjaroenrat, the former leader of the Move Forward party, met with senior foreign diplomats, mostly from European countries, on August 2 at the residence of the German Ambassador to Thailand, reported THai PBS.

Pita expressed gratitude for the invitation and acknowledged the presence of envoys from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden.

The meeting took place as the Move Forward party awaited the Constitutional Court’s ruling on a petition filed by the Election Commission to disband the party over its proposal to amend the lèse majesté law. Party leader Chaithawat Tulathon also attended the meeting.

Rachada warned that foreign envoys should be careful, as their actions could be seen as interference in Thailand’s judicial process.

She criticised their supportive gestures as undiplomatic and detrimental to diplomatic relations. “Thailand has never acted in a way that disrespects other countries’ justice systems. Other countries should adhere to the same norm,” she said.

Warong Dechgitvigrom, leader of the Thai Pakdee party, similarly described the meeting as an attempt to pressure the Constitutional Court and interfere in Thai politics. “Please don’t forget that Thailand is a sovereign country with its own laws,” he said.

Thai netizens were divided in their reactions. Some supported the foreign diplomats and agreed with the meeting, while others echoed Warong’s view, criticising the envoys’ actions as undiplomatic and controversial.

They would be receiving only one-sided information if they were only allowed to listen to the government.

If she doesn't want the envoys to hear only one side then it is an absolute necessity that they listen to the opposition......and as many other civil groups as possible.

Stupid cow.

This OP is definitely political propaganda. His meeting with those other leaders is not one-sided unless the current government fails to do their part by meeting with them at other times. Seems someone in power is afraid the Move Forward party is making friends in other countries that have the same views. Maybe the current government does not like the idea of Democracy.

I think the blowback if MFP gets banned will be pretty severe.

Maybe they just want to meet an elected Thai PM not an installed unelected one 🤔

As the Thai government doesn't recognize the Thai People's sovereignty of Thailand, why should should foreign envoys concede their diplomatic independence to the government?

they sound a little jealous that they weren't invited to the party. how does it feel?

and how is it that MFP is the opposition when they won the most votes? I wonder if the euros can make sense out of Thai democracy

Solution: dissolve any opposition and give out muzzles for everyone?

Far away from freedom and democracy 😳

Xenophobic as usual .

Some Thais are just being overly sensitive, and know that yet another banning of a political party looks bad, so they're on the offensive implying "interference".

Shame on them.

Interference in Thail politics is the domain of the Military at the behest of the Powers-that-Be, and to suggest otherwise seems strange.

Charles de Gaule did stimulate quebecs desire for independence, but 2 referendums later nothing has changed. Levesque an Parizeau should have made it about economics and not about culture. Meanwhile, trudeau is forcing more and more migrants into quebec in order to block any chance of a 3rd referendum succeding.

We will find out today the future of MFP.at least one us senator spoke up in favor of MFP.

Jebus, they really do act like a 5 year old at times.

What a load of cr%p; is is normal practice for overseas diplomats of any country to meet with both government and opposition figures in the countries they are posted to; I remember over many decades Thai diplomats in Australia meeting with both government and opposition figures.

Khun Rachada seems ignorant of this convention.

Undiplomatic meeting??? What even is that? Never heard of it, so I guess the big guys of Thailand made up a new combination of words with a designated meaning opening the way and purpose for them.

The meeting with opposition can not be more right and diplomatic in the words real meaning. It´s time they take out the encyclopedia and look up the word democratic order and system. Something that means it´s a natural thing to hear opinions from all sides before making any decisions or agreements with a country.

I am wondering who the netizens are as the party won the elections by voting by the netizens... Or are the netizens the army and elite and fear for their power and positions... In fact there is also a Public Democratic Republic somewhere nearby too and Thailand is copying that more and more

Yup, you got some stupid laws...

Well, well, another ignorant member of the leading elite of this country has spoken. Rachada Dhnadirek might be well advised to study the Vienna Convention stipulating clearly, what a diplomats duties are, what a diplomat is entitled to etc. For the time being, MFP remains the party which got the most votes in last "democratic" elections a little more than a year ago, even according to Thai law. That might change today but the meeting between a diplomat and ANYBODY else in Thailand is none of Thailand's concern.

If any of those diplomats wanted to get the comments and inputs of the self-seated government, then I am sure, that the German Head of Mission would have extended an invitation to lunch. In order to get a picture on domestic affairs, with absolutely no intention to intervene in the same domestic affairs is, to invite all parties. In the case of the Swiss ambassador 10+ years ago, she managed to get the red and the yellow shirts to the same table at the Swiss residence. This time round the Germans chose to invite the parties apparently individually, for the very same cause.

So Rachada Dhnadirek is well advised to keep her shirt on, to cool it and go back and study the Vienna Convention. She had her 15 minutes of fame but ridiculed the government, embarrassed the Thai foreign affairs ministry and made a complete fool out of herself.

Next please!

Yes, ignorant in more ways than one.

The King of Thailand formally accepted the credentials of each of these Diplomats.

To imply that any Diplomats acted improperly nearly directly impugns the Monarchy.
