Hunter Biden Faces Evidence That he Was Hired by Romanian to Seek US Policy Influence

Hunter Biden is set to face evidence in an upcoming trial that he received compensation from a Romanian businessman who was allegedly trying to influence U.S. policy, according to a recent court filing by the special counsel's office. The businessman sought to sway U.S. public opinion and influence an American investigation into a Romanian investigation targeting him, according to the prosecution.

The evidence presented by the prosecution will suggest that Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, received financial compensation from this foreign principal in return for efforts to influence U.S. policy, specifically concerning the Romanian investigation of the businessman. Senior assistant special counsel Derek Hines, in a filing submitted Wednesday, stated that the trial evidence would demonstrate this compensation was part of a broader attempt to impact U.S. policy.

The prosecution's case will not allege that Hunter Biden engaged in lobbying activities as part of this compensation. Instead, the special counsel's office contends that Biden performed minimal work for the substantial sums of money he received from these entities. The details surrounding these financial arrangements are expected to play a crucial role in the upcoming trial.

The prosecution included these new details in a filing urging the court to reject Hunter Biden’s request to exclude certain pieces of evidence that his legal team argues could be prejudicial. Biden faces allegations related to tax evasion, failure to file taxes, evasion of assessment, and filing a fraudulent tax form.

Efforts to reach Hunter Biden's attorney for comment were unsuccessful as of Wednesday night. The original indictment against Hunter Biden claims that between November 2015 and May 2017, he received roughly a third of a $3.1 million compensation package based on an oral agreement to assist the Romanian businessman, identified in the filings as “G.P.,” in contesting bribery charges in Romania. The prosecution's case is expected to feature testimony from a business associate who will describe efforts by the Romanian businessman to engage the associate and another person in pressing U.S. federal agencies to open an investigation, aimed at halting the criminal investigation in Romania.

Despite these allegations, the prosecution has clarified that they will not present evidence showing that Hunter Biden received direct compensation from a foreign state or that he was paid for actions taken by his father, President Biden, which might have influenced national or international politics. However, Hines emphasized that the structure of Biden's compensation and the nature of his work are relevant to understanding his state of mind and intent during the tax years in question.

The special counsel's filing also challenges any notion that Hunter Biden's actions were a result of diminished capacity due to his drug addiction. Hines argued that despite his addiction, Biden’s agreement to attempt to influence U.S. public policy and to receive millions of dollars for doing so indicates a clear intent and awareness of his actions.

As the trial date approaches, the focus on Hunter Biden’s business dealings, particularly his relationships with the Romanian businessman, the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma, and CEFC China Energy Company, is likely to intensify. The trial is scheduled to begin next month, with significant attention expected on the evidence presented by the special counsel's team.

Hunter, Schmunter.

The scary thing is that Biden's sitting across the negotiating table from foreign leaders, many of them adversarial, who have that kind of dirt that could send his kid to prison.

Ah! Those tough negotiations with Romania, 🤣

I am sure there is a legitimate reason that Hunter received large amounts of money from Romania. It get a few million from them every year just for being me.

He won't have to worry. He is part of the protected class.  Yes, I know about the gun charge.  Know why that is the only thing they brought charges against him on this.  On any other charge, the Big Guy would wind up being charged too.  We can't have that happen.

And how many Republicans have done the same? Lots.

“I think Russian propaganda has made its way into the United States, unfortunately, and it’s infected a good chunk of my party’s base,” Representative Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told Puck’s Julia Ioffe last week. Representative Mike Turner, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, went further, telling CNN’s Jake Tapper a few days later, “We see directly coming from Russia attempts to mask communications that are anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia messages, some of which we even hear being uttered on the House floor.”

What about Trump? His son in law got billions from the middle east. Trump's trying to build a tower in Moscow.

Stunning you give this BS a pass. Shows what's wrong with America.

Donald Trump’s Worst Deal

The President helped build a hotel in Azerbaijan that appears to be a corrupt operation engineered by oligarchs tied to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

I am sure it's an opinion you also support , right?

Then why make the comparison... each should stand on their own and this OP is about hunter not trump.

So you approve of hunter and joe being bought off... JONATHAN TURLEY: It's very frustrating for many of us who have been writing for years, that we don't understand why there was not a charge under FARA for being an unregistered foreign agent. This record is replete with contracts, so it seemed to meet the standard used in earlier cases during the Trump administration. You couldn't have an official go to Epcot without getting a FARA charge from the Justice Department. It seemed to be one of the most ubiquitous charges coming out of that department. With Hunter Biden, they have consistently ignored overwhelming evidence that he was receiving millions to influence policy. So now, after all that time, Weiss files this thing with the courts saying, oh, well, yeah, we know that he was directing this stuff because he was getting money to influence U.S. policy from this Romanian. And it left everyone scratching their heads. It's like saying we can prove auto theft because we know he used it in the kidnaping. And the question is, well, why didn't you charge him on the kidnaping?

More B.S.! Where is your evidence that Joe has been bought off? In the MAGA alternate universe? 😃
