What kind of hobbies do you have?
Hard to go wrong with DJI Mavic line, though a bit pricey, but, will be first & last one you buy ... probably. I have 2 lower end priced drones, with minimum specs for decent vid. VLL SQ906 Beast Pro 2, w/3 axis gimbal, and Sony camera sensor. Probably discontinued. As a few more came out afterwards. Also have a MJX Bugs 16 (I think), will handle most any wind here, camera not as good, but decent, on 3 axis gimbal also. I think both were in the $500 USD range A good DJI will be $1000+ USD. All 3 will have GPS, telemetry, to monitor and see what the drone sees, along with autonomous programs. Most programs I didn't use, as more sales gimmicks, though nice if using. DJI will have obstacle avoidance, that may actually work. Wouldn't trust other brands version of. Those 3 brands seem to be pretty dependable. Always order extra batteries with any drone, as if & when discontinued, getting replacement will be a challenge. Knock offs are usually poor quality. Last drone I bought was a few years ago, while the Capt Drone suggestion for what's new. And he always has a best of, for the year recommendations. I was already familiar with MJX products, having 4 or 5 already. VLL was new to me, and recommended by a few YT'er at the time. I'm a Sony fan, so that sold me. What I use mostly when wanting some snaps. Takes good photos, or I'll just pull them off the vid. Very slight edit, and they look quite good. I'm more just photography from a different viewpoint. Not really concerned about making vids. Done playing, sport flying, modding them, or chop shopping. Running low on batteries anyway or most of the 'toys'. Snaps of the hood, from the VLL SQ906 from last month, and a not so good day ... -

Shingles - Worth the vaccination?
My answer to your question is a BIG YES!!! Get the vaccine. I was dumb and didn't get it. I had shingles a couple of years ago and it was pure hell and the most painful experience I have ever had. I was in pain 24/7 for an entire week before it slowly started to go away. -

Today I met the first farang returning home because of exchange rate
The baht isn't "strong" The dollar is weak. So are the currencies of countries that are embarking on a new rate-cutting cycle including the UK and the EU bloc. The only scam here is that western currencies are taking as long as they are to weaken. People living here on modest fixed income denominated in USD/GBP/EUR/AUD/CAD etc may have had a great time during the "good old days" of silly exchange rates but that party is over for all but those with larger pensions or stipends. The authorities here could soon raise the financial criteria for retirement. It's been 800k for 15 years plus and, in the meantime, western money, with the exception of the USD, has weakened significantly while prices of goods and services have risen. More older westerners are getting ill without insurance and the Thais don't want to stretch their resources. When they pull the trigger, a lot of retirees will be going elsewhere. -

I think that's what torpedoed it. They claimed (correctly) that Thailand paid out 400 million baht for treatment of foreigners who couldn't pay their hospitals bills. But they forgot everyone with a smartphone carries a calculator around with them, and can multiply 300 baht x 40 million arrivals. BTW, that was about the 3rd time they ran the 300 baht tax up the flagpole, just since I arrived in 2011.- 1

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2024)
I watched part of the movie, "The Savage Peace" and it brought back memories of another doco I'd seen some while ago, and it might have even been this one? I had also watched a doco which challenged the well worn cliché that it was only the Nazis who were killing and torturing the Jews in Germany, and it did this by showing home movies of Jews being attacked in the streets and being dragged out of their homes and beaten by "everyday" Germans! These two along with a particularly gutwrenching doco about what was found in the concentration camps after the British arrived there, really made me understand that man's cruelty to men knows no bounds – – which was partly why I stopped viewing the movie, "The Savage Peace" because this was really about the payback/retribution/revenge for what occurred in the war, and I've had my fill of this. However thank you for bringing it to my attention and I will work my way through the other movies shortly, and by way of mention, I will also look for the movie suggested by you in the PM. Many thanks. -

Slight change of subject. Can somebody tell me the procedure for re-entry permit , like how long it takes between handing in the paperwork and getting it back. It's so many years since I left Thailand I can't remember. -

Health Supplements
I would highly recommend exercise. I was getting back into shape and at the same time was successful in cutting back my BP meds dosage 50%. Unfortunately I injured myself and had to take a huge hiatus. I can't do the exercise that I want for another couple months although I am doing a lot of stretching and mobility. Be very excited to challenge myself like that again. I believe that much of my condition is just lazy lifestyle and was drinking alcohol too much. Therefore I would highly suggest you get yourself on a serious exercise regimen. Can be something as simple as 30 minutes of stretching and mild cardio exercise plus 10,000 steps a day Good luck. I'm in a very similar boat I want to do the same thing -

Wise receipts + Thai bank receipts as proof of monthly transfers (retirement visa)
Do you have internet banking with Kasikorn? Go there an order statements for download in Thai language and see what they show. Otherwise you have to go to the branch and order statements on the spot for 200 Baht. The problem might be - depending on your situation - that statements are issued no more than one year back. Don't know whether you can get back longer for cost and potential waiting time. For immigration I would take care to get statements from the branch with stamps and signature.- 1

Violent Brawl Between Drunk Australian Tourists Shocks Pattaya
This is what Thais see so often and and expect from 'dirty falangs'. Unfortunately, there are many Thais that do not understand that there are sexpat pieshead Tourists like these blokes, and then there normal retired/married Expats of which the vast majority are good. It is only once the Thais get to know an Expat that they understand that there is a big difference. I can see Thailand one day getting to the point where they will like many other countries (Japan, Spain, Bali, etc etc) where they decide that enough is enough. While the travel industries and associations all push for more and more tourists due to self-interest, with ever increasing BS about their 'value' to the economy, the ordinary people in many countries are starting to protest and demand less tourists. Post Covid saw a surge in badly behaved cheap charlie tourists who are trying to 'party' after years of suppression - they have become too many and too much - and many countries have had enough. I think Thailand might start heading that way soon if TAT and all the others keep promising an economic saviour from millions of more tourists like these Aussie blokes that never eventuates - but all the social problems continue to grow.
