It's the same game Trump played with the hush money trial. Ultimately, he did not take the witness stand because he knew he would get shredded.

 

He debated Biden because he thought he could win. His handlers probably told him Biden was in cognitive decline.

 

The same handlers are probably telling him debating Harris is too dangerous. As a former prosecutor, she has the tools to eviscerate him.

 

Trump hates losing, or being called a loser. Being unable to interrupt or talk over Harris is a losing position.
