Da Nang Hotels?

proton

Recommended Posts

Mrs wants a trip to Vietnam which surprised me, I have never been. Thought Da Nang would be good as it's got a beech and an airport only a couple of house away. Any suggestions on a decent hotel near the beach, or what to do and see. The money puts me off a bit with enormous denominations, must be easy to make mistakes paying for things, I would get the money at superrich not interested in doing it there in gold shops.

I doubt  you could or would want to do that. Does Superrich or any currency exchange even sell Viet currency?

Think positives - just changing $50 you are a millionaire!

PS. One strange thing; SuperRich at BKK only changes THB. No foreign.

May be a law to milk more farangs?

Danang Airport will exchange THB for VND. Many hotels along the beachfront (or on the streets behind) will exchange money. Just keep your zeroes straight in your head and you won't overpay. I never encoutered cheats anyhow.

If you want 5-star then consider Intercontinental Danang on the peninsula. That said, Danang's beach is huge. You wont have a problem finding a nice room. Sheraton and Hilton have a presence as well as many independents. You could also consider going south to An Bang Beach. Far quieter, its a little village with some really nice smaller hotels. Everything within walking distance.

Danang is far and away the cleanest and most picturesque big city in VN. I never did much in Danang except body surf the waves, bike around, go for long beach walks and drink beer and iced coffees, so I can't help on the things-to-do front.

Have a good trip.

That's a good choice; $ 381 / nite...

I stayed at Eden Plaza close to airport. Nice looking huge place but was worn out dump. And empty, only 6 guests on breakfast which was cold, old food and poor selection. Happily they made fresh omelets and they were good.

But for $ 22/nite who cares? I didn't.

The best places to exchange are jewerly/gold stores.

SuperRich at BKK, lowest floor, is better than Vn hotels and airport. Change $ 100 there and rest in Vn.

PS. I never went the beach. It's far away from the city. The beach is like any tourist area. I like to mix with regular people and see how they live.

One think I didn't like to see was cops were pulling over many young people on motobikes with gf and taking bikes away. That happened in rich and trendy area next to Dragon Bridge. I'm not sure why but looked like they didn't like trendy western looking kids....

Nonsense. 10 min Grab bike ride at most.

Yes there are annoying tourist clusters at the beach but thankfully the beach is huge and one can just sidestep that crap.

Cops just doing their job buddy.... those kids probably didnt have their license or theyre wanted on some other charge. To the OP, dont worry about the cops, they do a fine job in VN and never hassle Westerners.

Cheers buddy

I just know I'm going to be dissapointed when I go to Da Nang in October as all I think of is the TV show 'China Beach' set in Da Nang.

I believe that's My Khe beach, anyone know if that's a good place to stay?

When I was there in spring everything fronting My Khe Beach was heaving with tourists, particularly coachloads of Koreans and to a lesser extent, Chinese and VNese. That said, the further north or further south I went on the massive stretch of sand the fewer tourists I saw. And if one stays several streets back from the sea there are some good deals on rooms - and thinner crowds.

From Nguyen Van Thoai south there is a densely packed tourist "zone" w tons of hotels, restaurants, pubs, cafes, minimarts, shopping. Thins out the further west you go. It gets less crowded going north toward Pham Van Dong and beyond.

Might be less busy now; I was told May-Aug is high season.

If youre into playing in the waves the surf looks like its picking up steam again.

What is so hard about the money it is much more simple than thai money is. 1 dollar is simply around 25K dong and that usually gets you a beer on the streets as well. From that figure it is easy to keep doing the math.

This while it is much harder to calculate in Thailand with 1 dollar being 33-35 baht and then having to pay 85 baht for a beer.

Da nang is very populair among Thais for the seafood, casino's and shopping of clothes. Any Thai that is in the position of doing a travel once in a while, would basically opt in to go there, once knowing the prices there.

Stayed there in June.  Beach was busy very early morning and in the evenings.  But in the daytime was like the photo, it was 38+ which explains the lack of bodies.  I actually don't like beaches but I do like beach bars, of which there are several and a good time was had.

Garden Hilton is good, on the beach, rooftop pool. The Dong will keep you on your toes - 2.5 to 3 million Dong you'll have a nice evening out. Beer in a street store very cheap, cheaper than 39-40 baht.  Hoi An down the highway 45 minutes nice day trip.

Wish I went alone ........😉

Last November we stayed at Mandila Beach Hotel which was excellent value for money. Across the road on the beach there were plenty of food and drink options including a great craft brewery with restaurant called EastWest.
