New Rules Restrict Street Vending to Low-Income Thais Only

All these rules on stall size and placement which will be ignored immediately until a pedestrian is forced onto the road and hit by traffic…. But now they are loe income stall holders not worth suing them

An awesome rant making exactly this point, is here, from the Integrity Legal guy.  Not allowing foreign-nationals to complete with Thais in this market-niche is good - but the rest is terrible:

depends what you mean by earn; turnover or profit or paying yourself a salary... all very different things

I have been very close to a coffee vendor and a pair of noodle sellers who used to operate outside my front door until someone recently chased them up the block.

 

They were wonderful neighbors for nearly 15 years,  even keeping my driveway swept and helping feed my cat when I traveled.

 

They work incredibly hard. It pains me to think some poorly thought-out arbitrary policy change will cost two families their living.
