The French are fond of blaming it on the Brit government for making life too easy for them when they get there. I guess millions of Brits would totally agree. But what's the deterrent? That seems to be what's needed. Channel patrols, lassoing the dinghies and towing them back to Calais? Or the Isle of Wight? A new prison colony? A prison ship? A special one way channel tunnel train journey back to France?

The single biggest deterrents are the crossing itself and the associated costs.......which is a strong indication of the mismatch between push and pull.

I was surprised that language is a big influence.....the fact that many seeking to come here already 'get by' at least in English

Not to stray from the subject, your post reminded me of something from more than 20 years ago about some sort of "platform" built in the sea in that area and was supposed to become an independent country.  What ever became of that?  Can't recall the name.

He's the real deal...............apart from the religious extremism! So, not quite the real deal, or full deck even?

I do struggle with the full on bible analysis, however, occassionaly the wisdom of the bible is useful, for instance "you will reap what you sow", was true then and is true now.

When I say "real deal" I meant in terms of CV, he was a Navy Seal, is an endurance athlete and can shoot a pistol from 100 feet onto a target. If things were to hit the fan that's the kind of man you want in your corner. Great channel for fitness, shooting and unusual political analysis. But yah, be prepared for the odd bible reference.

The Bible cannot be used selectively for 'good' quotes, it has to be accepted in its entirety. Take the story of Lot offering his daughters for gang rape, or the daughters getting him drunk to have sex with him. The Bible would be banned in many schools in USA for the violence and sex!

By the way, shooting a target with a pistol at 100 feet is not that impressive. I'm definitely not a SEAL but used to shoot revolver and pistol at 50 meters, that's over 150 feet.

Agree.....cherry picking is so annoying.....but it does highlight the whole stupidity of the Abrahamic religions.

Thats correct. But the far right like to beat there chest and blame dems when its a convenient talking point but when they're in office it suddenly ok cos they "deal" with it but mysteriously it still goes on. Containment and mitigation is what can and needs to be done on one front while you shut down or prevent those that you can. You will never stop it.

Of course, it's human nature to try to improve your lot. What's the American Dream? Getting rich, or richer than your neighbour.

Maybe this?

Have to say it doesn't look too inviting. Not sure I'd make the trip for that!

Sure, a massive pool of disorganised cheap labour essential to any well tuned capitalist system.

It happens in almost every country in the world? There's always someone to exploit and it has nothing to do with capitalism. If its not a labor force from a cheapet neighboring country its a group thats different than the majority so they are far game to use.

The USA was built on slave labour.

I think you might be thinking of Maunsell forts.

As we're most all prospering nations at that time and before so check your history facts. If your country  wasn't using slave labor then it was thru military conquest of the Europeans or any number of other countries invading and taking what wasn't there's before them. There are no innocent countries when you actually look at history.

It has everything to do with capitalism. Keeping wages low, exploiting the poor, makes for enormous profits. Apple and the luxury brands industry use cheap labour anywhere and everywhere. Back street Bangladeshi sweat shops knocking out Gucci and Nike and getting paid peanuts. How else do you think people get fabulously rich? And billions inescapably poor.

As I said it happens in EVERY country in the world its not just capitalist doing it. Im not condoning it, just stating a fact.

Apart from the startling revelation that American diplomats discuss diplomatic affairs, this conversation proves what exactly?

Sure, I understand. But there again, I don't suppose Bangladesh imports an exploitable impoverished desperate army of cheap labour, unless you count the Rohingya. The rich countries do it in the main. I guess communist china doesn't as they have a ready made source of cheap labour - the much less well off Chinese, probably from ethnic minorities, not Han. And Russia definitely imports cheap labour from all those annexed central Asian satellite soviet countries. And India has a conveniently nuanced caste system where the West has class. So yes, I guess you have a point. But to run an economy or a business successfully, your income must exceed your expenditure. That's called profit. And that to me is a sine qua non of capitalism. And probably of any other business model. To each according to his needs, from each according to his ability. Apparently there's a huge disinformation campaign backed by the Kremlin branding Kamala a communist, especially targeting Latino voters from heavy socialist fxxx ups like Venezuela and Bolivia. This has been bought by the MAGA morons who wouldn't know a Marxist dialectic if it grabbed them by the testicles and and swung them around the room. But they love expanding and promoting this utter BS. Like Vance said, lying's completely acceptable in certain circumstances. Put that on his gravestone.

Similar area of the Bible.  Both daughters slept with their father.  Don't worry it wasn't three in a bed, they did it on consecutive nights.  They obviously weren't perverts!

Trump has already stated he will not accept the results if he loses, probably will lead to civil strife. In the meantime Republicans are investing lot of effort to disenfranchise Dem voters. e.g.

I saw Trump did say he would accept a possible loss. If any violence occur, Trump should be held accountable and jailed for life...what ever there is left..🙄

Well actually they don't need to import others as they exploit women and children.

As for disinformation coming from other countries there's tons of it to the point that many can't decipher truth from fiction. It will get worse I suspect as time goes on with AI being used so prevalent since AI engines use the internet for their info source too

Agree, but is able to use his sociopathic/narcissism to his advantage.

He uses the stark raving mad for his gain.
