EV firms seek easing of manufacturing conditions

Automakers who were granted incentives under the EV3.0 scheme are required to assemble EVs locally from 2024 and meet production targets set by the government.
"At least eight Chinese EV makers are waiting to have talks with the government. They are worried about the oversupply of EVs in the market," said Surapong Paisitpatanapong, vice-chairman of the FTI and spokesman for the federation's Automotive Industry Club.

The Excise Department has estimated that about 185,029 EVs will be imported under the EV3.0 policy. Of these, 84,195 EVs were imported in 2022-2023, 66,448 in 2024, and 34,386 will be imported in 2025.

The top five companies expected to import the most EVs between 2022 and 2025 are: Rever Automotive (77,247 units), Neta Auto (40,837), MG Sales (27,186), Great Wall Motor Manufacturing (24,225), and EV Primus (8,493).

The policy offers import tax exemption for EV makers as well as other subsidies, but mandates them to produce the cars locally at a ratio of 1:1 to those imported in 2024 (importing 1 EV for every 1 locally produced EV) and a 1:1.5 ratio for cars imported in 2025 (importing 1 EV for every 1.5 locally produced EVs).

“It is estimated that by 2025 EV makers will need to produce 180,000 units to offset the imports,” EVAT president Krisda Utamote said on Wednesday. “With the low purchasing power in the Thai market, automakers will need to seek out secondary markets to distribute their products or risk suffering losses from oversupply.

My understanding is that for vehicles imported in 2022,2023 and 2024 150,643 need to be locally built in 2024 using a ratio of 1:1 if they number aren't met they can carry over the unbuilt quota into 2025 but the ratio changes to 1 EV imported  for every 1.5 locally produced EVs

To get a real time depreication on vehicles, just look at the Hybrid Mercedes and compaire the same class be it S, E or C and look at the difference in price between that and a naturally aspirated vehicle of the same year, even hybrids depericate way quicker than a petrol/deisel of the same model and year, so the plug ins of course will be even quicker to depreicate.

To get a real time depreication on vehicles, just look at the Hybrid Mercedes and compaire the same class be it S, E or C and look at the difference in price between that and a naturally aspirated vehicle of the same year, even hybrids depericate way quicker than a petrol/deisel of the same model and year, so the plug ins of course will be even quicker to depreicate.

Please show the data, without it these are just assumptions

You're not going tO get a 'real time depreciation, till the price war settles, and still maybe not, due to improved or new tech coming the next 5-10 years.   Look what has progress in just the last 5 years.

 

Now LFP is the standard, unless performance or LR is wanted.  Got to be 3 or more types of batteries in development now, that we'll see in the next 5 years.

 

But fossil fuel isn't and won't be progressing, now or in the future.  H2 for long haul trucking, and that's a stretch.

 

If people are worried about depreciation when buying a new car, simple solution ....

Under the 30 30 Policy Thailand is hoping to build 30% of all EV's and pickups by 2030

Phase 3 (2026-2030) is driven by the “30/30 policy” to produce 725,000 EV cars and pick-ups plus 675,000 EV motorcycles. This will account for 30 per cent of all auto production in 2030 and includes domestic manufacture of batteries.

This indicates there are hoping to build in the region of 1,600,000 ICE vehicles in 2030

You have made a great choice in switching to Samsung. As you say what does Apple give you for the price? I would say not a lot. You have to use their system for everything including uploading music etc.

I had an Apple phone long time ago, it was company supply, but hated it and would never buy one. Over priced and far, far too restrictive as to what you can do to the phone you paid a fortune for.

Howe are you finding the transition? I left iPhones after the iPhone 4 and went Samsung. Was talked in to going back to Apple and got the 14 ProMax when it came out. Nothing but remorse. I mean it's not terrible but the Samsung just did all the little things better. Even after 18 months of use I only tolerate it - I'll never like it.

I do love my Macbooks though - could never go back to PC.

What was the main reason for the change from Apple to Samsung ?, am guessing it is to do with connectivity between your various devices ?

we had Samsungs when they had curved edges and we both both broke our screens. That's when we switched to apple.

 

I have a Mac Studio for video editing and iPad mini and a Pro.

 

The transition has not been too bad as I'm familiar with Android, but I really do prefer it to my iPhone.

My airpod Pros died after a year, then my new apple watch started making emergency calls randomly, took me over a month to get it fixed. 

 

Was in a Samsung shop looking at the Ultra Watch when they asked us what phones we had and they then quoted us a cost to change to a Samsung galaxy s24 ultra.

 

As they will be replacing the S24 in January they gave us a very good deal.

Benz diesel cars are really good and If I were to buy another Diesel or recommend to anyone, the C220d is great. Never a gasoline or hybrid, those are full of complexities and problems.

main reason i  recommendthe IPhone 15 Pro Max is the best: performance and the the new battery limiting.

the battery limit allows to phone to stop charging so 80% and only first to 100% once every few weeks or month. 

that means i can have long battery life health. and not be complaining about low battery after 3 years. 

my last iPhone degraded quite fast to 80% in 2 years. 

performance is amazing, and the 16 is just a bit faster, and the 15 pro max model is base at 256gb. 

i got 100% health at 193 Cycles 

 

also because i have only macs, 16" m1 Pro Max and 14 m2 Pro max.  what a beast of a computer!!!! 

 

everything connects so good, copy paste  password management, icloud photos and drive. 

for someone that works daily with Macs, iPhone is really te best combination. 

 

i also have apple watch 6 44. i use to track a lot of  health data, like sleep tracking since for me, it's institutional  for my training routine.

 

but it's not cheap, comes with a big premium price.

All vehicles across the board will be depreciating, as long as there is a price war.  CN is bringing in a new era of 'auto sales', stopping the price gouging for their under performing POS,from the legacy auto makers, and it's coming to an end ... thankfully :coffee1:

EV's are taking an extra hit in deprecation due to lack of demand, oversupply and huge price reductions

oversupply and huge price reductions aren't happening in the  ICEV as they still have an export market 86,000 vehicles exported in August

Enlightened consumers, supply & demand, pricing & completion ... we'll see what the next 5 yrs does to the market.   Should be interesting.

 

Myself, just a spectator, as don't need any more transport.  Think I scratched the idea of a truck, as just a bit too frivolous, and impractical.  Maybe if younger, and just arriving to TH.  

 

After I crap out, wife won't have a real use for it, and 1M in the bank, is better than a pittance in the carpark, in say 5-10 (longer hopefully) years, along with yearly costs just to insure it.
