They clearly have the budget to use their resources to arrest 4 women for playing a 240 baht game of cards, so they can certainly ride / walk around town and fine those without helmets, driving dangerously and running red lights....

Great suggestion, use the budget required to arrest four women gambling to patrol the roads!   Any other fatuous suggestions?

Similar to the Gov't run Lottery?

well kind of, but the lottery is legal and the other sorts of betting are  not    however there was a recent update to gambling laws   so you can bet on cock fights and buffalo races during certain times of the day  but still can't have a game of poker or bridge at home with your friends,,, total madness  :w00t:

Yes, indeed, they need more smart BMW vehicles,....and they don't come cheap !

Why did these women not get to wear balaclavas and sunglasses like a lot of criminals do in these photo ops

If I got busted for $7 of gambling, I'd be putting my mugshot on my Christmas cards to send to friends and relatives.

What a hoot.  We'd be laughing about it for years.

And Thailand hates it when you call them a 3rd world country..  🤦‍♂️

Good grief, busted for $7:20 USD. Divided by (4)

you say 40 plus people died on the road but they wrer not plaing cards, can you be breathalysed for playind cards ?

I think you have missed my point; the daily slaughter on the roads is a direct result of RTP doing little to reduce these numbers whilst stamping out trivial matters like old ladies playing cards.

Unless, of course, this was an attempt at humour?

They manage a cop every 10 metres when a big-wig comes to town.  That is proper policing of roads.

Valid point, if 240 baht may have been representative of 240,000 baht etc...  but why not use bottle tops instead etc...

Different denominations for Singha, Chang, Leo, etc.? Ain't happenin'.

I get the 'thin end of the wedge' argument and its not without merit but still.... arresting 4 ladies for a 240 baht game of cards on the face of it seems so very disproportionate.....

The Thais who stitched them up didn't think so, and obviously approved that use of police resources against the countless better uses our ANF Police Oversight Board can dream up. The law's the law. Basically, no arrests should be made, esp of any farang, even more so a Brit, and overstays permitted until the roads are just as safe as they are in the Islamic Republic of the UK, AND the Red Bull heir caught and punished severely. There!

That said, I do sympathize with these ladies, assuming the game wasn't rigged.

... And then there is the hypocrisy, are there any Policeman who don't gamble ???  (all those I know, gamble over anything).

Oh, you'd hypocritically love the hypocrisy if it were your wife being cheated out of B50,000 and signing a loan paper to borrow another 20k you're going to be responsible for.

Wife doesn't gamble, ever. Every Policeman I know does - I've even seen them turn hotels suites into casino's.

And then there is the government pushing the 'Casino barges' etc....    then charging for women for a game of cards.. Yes... Hypocrisy indeed.

Lucky you, eh. Just too bad for those whose wives do get suckered into a rigged game. We insist the police only work traffic. And they're hypocrites. 🙂

False analogy, of course. Legal, regulated gambling with objective rules is a different matter. Stop being hypocritical and let a motorcycle mechanic perform your next surgery instead of a qualified doc at a hsp.
