Those who fell for marriage, how do you cope knowing you've ruined your life?

I see a lot of old sods at work that never go home.  The single guys leave at 4 but the married losers stay until 5, 6 or even 7.  Sad-faced broken men that eat dinner at work 'to avoid the traffic'.  Anything to avoid going home to the wife.

How about you?  Did you fall for marriage or are you still a free and happy quality tourist?

You must be one of them hey staying till 7.30 I guess.

I'm happy, you're not, so who's really sad?

And how do YOU know if he is sad or happy?

I doubt that you have ever met him, nor lived with him, so how do you know if he is sad or happy?

I chose to not get married in Thailand.

Reason:

a. Failed marriage to a white girl in the 1970s.

b. Failed marriage to a Hong Kong girl in the late 1970s.

c. Long-term GF relationship from 1993 to 2013.  She was NUTZO.

d.  Live of Riley, beginning in 2013, after dumping the GF in Taiwan, and moving to Thailand.

No hassles.

No jealousy issues.

No need to tame the shrews, either.

Follow the Teachings of Shakespeare, is my best advice.

In the west the women fixed it so that just living together counts as a marriage when the divorce happens.

I wish sexbots had existed when I made the mistake of living with a woman that turned out rotten.

sex dolls are already here.

dont tell me those ears dont turn you on.

but how do you know the sex bot wont murder your in your sleep?

But you are an outcast in Oz and people judge you for this behind your back. Not that you care about this bc all you care about is money and holidays.

I can assure you that the biggest mistake you have made in your life is that you dont have a child of your own. If you did you would know that the focus is away from oneself to the child and its the best thing that can happen to a man. You are missing out mate!

Outcast for being unmarried, or for having a place in Thailand?

I find it hard to imagine having a kid, bit like trying to imagine being a bullfighter or a ballet dancer, it’s so far out.

Men on a good income can afford to be married and also have an interesting life with heaps of travel, but if I’d been married, on my  very modest income, I’d have had to spend every spare cent of it on a 3 bedroom house in an ugly Australian suburb, and would have missed out on all the fantastic experiences I’ve enjoyed in my travels throughout the world.

Indeed. Fascinating!

Bit of a mixture for me.....married for 14 years, 'became' a single dad of four youngsters. Single for 13 years whilst the kids grew up...then kicked the a**e out of being single again until I remarried.

Sex bots would be like real women without the complaining, menstrual tantrums, insisting on putting the seat down, and demands to visit the loathsome family, or worse, let them visit.

On the positive side, they never say no, never have to wash their hair at inconvenient times, never have periods, willingly serve the drinks when the boys are over for the big game on tv, and laugh at our jokes.

At the end of the day, we're all here because we had families.

I don't understand that. Are you saying we all have families of our own, or we come from a family? Lots of men don't have children.

Agree 100%. Had my first partner not been a rotten <deleted> I'd have let her use me for the rest of my life, as I thought women were special back then ( working with them is a wake up call ).

So I was lucky that she was rotten enough to dump her, as I went on to have amazing experiences in other countries for the next 30 years.

Sorry dont understand you statement about having a family?

What does having a family have anything to do to make someone want to come to Thailand?

I didn't have a family before moving to Thailand.

My company moved me to Thailand when I was much younger.  Most of my friends in Bangkok at that time were young too (early to mid 30's) none of them had families or were married before coming to Thailand.

CD is the miserable one, hoping everyone else is even more miserable. My first marriage in the UK didn't end up well, but had 2 kids and stayed until they left home; I might have stayed longer because i had my dream home, but the ex-wifes financial incompetence (and nagging) meant it had to be sold to pay off the mortgage. I just so happened to also be made redundant (at age 55)  a few weeks before moving, and knew getting another job would be hard. Downsized, mortgage free and just enough income so that work was not essential. Younger son left for university 3 years later, i told wife to divorce me and moved to Thailand.

Intended having some fun, but it was short lived, as found a really good girl quickly (actually, 2 but had to choose). She was just happy to get the buddhist wedding and the promise of support, never asked for formal marriage. But, she quickly became pregnant and i was a Dad again. Then the visa rules changed, so needed the Marriage visa to stay - only had a modest pension which would last me until State pension kicked in, but not enough for retirement. So, got married as good for daughters future as well. Not regretted it. Bars not really my thing, not a big drinker. I had my daughter, my fish ponds and vegetable garden and computer to keep me busy. 10 years later have slowed down a lot, but still desire the wife!

I chose carefully, and do not regret it. She never stopped me going out, just wants to know where. Could life be better? well a nymphomaniac Mia noi on the side who just wants the sex and costs me only peanuts would have been nice, but i am a realist!

Only gripe - now my friends are going one by one - dead, left Thailand, no longer mobile. Would like a few new friends in my social life, but family WILL look after me.

I am not married, although everyone assumes we are.

My GF has asked me several times to marry her. I ask her which is more important, a piece of paper, or having my Australian OAP reduced by about 10,000 baht/month?

sounds a lot  like you would make up the idea of a certain religious male that considers a woman as a slave only.  I mean in some of those  areas, women cannot even look at the eyes of another man.  Also you could have a lot of slave wives.  Strange that this "religion" has been around since the 600's.  In some of those countries, women have had some freedom at times, dressed like the western women, educated free by the govt, but then a revolution and the women are slaves again.  Just find that hard to believe but it is still like that.  other countries liberated for 20 years, women allowed equality in jobs, education, but then liberators leave and  the country goes back to the stone age!  Totally fail to understand this "religion".  When the father of this religion passed away, there became a split in who would be the leaders of this religion and almost 2000 years later both sides continue to kill each other.  strange!  Just saying as the biggest thing to me is the relationships between men and women in that religion.  One would think that at some point the women would revolt as western women have done, but also  realize that this was a planned program of  the UN since the 90's, bringing equality to jobs and rights to more women of the world.  Here, women are still kept "at bay" for the most part.  Obviously their males don't provide what they need and I guess accept their own freedoms from women when so desired.  Will this last?  who knows as now it seems more of the westerners will possibly depart.  I however am still hoping it takes a while as I love it here even with the constant changes, it seems to remain the same.

So you aren't married then.

Because I don't see the point why I should legally make my life more difficult.

Lots of wisdom in many posts especially this snippet  from OneMore Farang.    Thanks mate but its too late for me!  My wife turned out to be the "madam gold digger" and threatens that if I go before her and then my kids come to "legally disturb" whatever inheritance she aims for, then she will KILL them. Yup, thats her adamant threat. 😡

But I'll never know the outcome and in the mean time she looks after me very very well, well most of the time.😕

Love is not just a noun but mostly a verb, a doing word, and can be hard work hey, made even harder within a marriage contract.

Sexbot= a robot that has sex with men ( or women if modified ).

NB not a real woman ( or man ).

I always wanted parents that loved me. It upsets me when I see kids that take their parents for granted.
