A Filipino Instagram user, under the account name *smartgirlphilippines*, has ignited controversy online after posting a video criticising Thai women in a sweeping comparison to Filipina women.

 

The video, posted on 5 November, includes remarks portraying Thai women as “easy” and “money-driven” and deems them unsuitable for marriage. The post quickly attracted widespread backlash from Thai netizens.

 

In her video, she speaks in English, contrasting Filipina women’s supposed virtues with perceived flaws in Thai women. She suggests that men prefer visiting Thailand for its “good food and fast women,” but argues that Filipinas make better life partners.

 

Her statement went as follows:

 

> “Thailand is your girlfriend, but the Philippines is your wife. Guys like to go to Thailand for the food and the fast women, but Thai girls don’t speak English.

 

They’re more transactional, whereas Filipinas speak English, love foreigners, and we’re more relational. Filipinas will treat you like a king and make you happy. You can date Thailand, but you’ll marry the Philippines.”

 

In Thai, her comment reads: “ไทยคือแฟน แต่ฟิลิปปินส์คือภรรยา ผู้ชายชอบไปเมืองไทยเพราะอาหารอร่อย และผู้หญิงใจง่าย แต่สาวไทยไม่พูดภาษาอังกฤษ พวกเขาไม่ชอบชาวต่างชาติจริงๆ และพวกเธอกลับชอบเงินมากกว่า”

 

This video swiftly drew criticism, with many Thai users condemning the post as offensive and stereotypical. Comments poured in, expressing disappointment and anger over her portrayal of Thai women.

 

Many netizens pointed out the unfair generalisation and condemned the idea of using cultural stereotypes as a basis for relationships.

 

As the clip continues to spread online, it highlights the tensions that can arise from public generalisations and the cultural sensitivities involved in cross-national relationships. That's exactly what it is.

Although there are many many exceptions in both countries.

Never give a filipina an excuse to get jealous.  They can become very unhinged and a pain to live with. 

 

I couldn't even thank a checkout operator without many questions being asked later. 

 

Either you put up with it or get out as fast as you can.  8 months and I ran as fast as I could.

With the exception of the very well-traveled and very well-off, Philipinas smother you, stalk you  and bleed you dry. They will take any chance to get their hooks into you and pin you down -- never believe a girl who tells you she is on the pill and check the condom for holes.

The only exceptions are the very well-traveled and well-off folk who spend as much of their time abroad as at home.

Lower-income, lower-educated girls from the provinces are horrific.   

You can keep them and their unsightly facial moles.

I find the high-pitched squawking of the Thai language, which always seems like screaming to me, as more irritating. 

The truth always hurts and besides that it is freedom of speech and an opinion.... Nothing wrong with it...except here in Thailand that only thinks that everything is perfect here

For those of us who have thick skin and high self-esteem it is very hard to get offended, we get offended because we choose to get offended, we get offended because we choose to be victims. Who cares what this woman thinks? Who cares what she says? She is just another talking head with an opinion.

 

Many of us happen to prefer Thailand and Thai women, for a dozen good reasons. For me the Philippines reminds me of one enormous Tijuana, with really, really bad food.

Well she is right about he food. Philippine food has to be among the worst in Asia. As for fast women, I have indulged in more than my fair share of Philippine women o we the years.  Here is a generalization for her … in the end all woman are the same, they are driven to control their men … it’s an overwhelming urge they can’t escape and it spoils everything good that they do.

TBH I want my wife to make me feel like I am her husband - not a fancy king

Silly to get angry about this. Both are very poor countries with ladies who want out of their current predicament. For either country to look down on the other is just silly. In my experience about 50% of mixed marriages fail, mostly due to unrealistic expectations as a result of the cultural divide, and often large age differences. I have lots of friends married to Thais and Filipinas and the relationships that have survived the early years are very successful.

There's a lot of truth in what the Pinay lady says, at least in short to medium term relationships. Long-term/lifetime relationships are probably a different matter. I'd say that the reason is largely cultural, it's much easier for most Westerners to relate to and understand the motivations of a Filipina who can speak English and was brought up as a Christian, we have many similar concepts like being driven by a sense of guilt far more than a sense of shame. It just means that building a lasting, meaningful relationship with a Thai lady can take a long time, and it's not always going to work out well. As an aside, I found out something a while back that shocked me a bit, my 41-year-old TGF of the last 17-odd years (and sometimes very odd with her, lol) now has a 3-year-old brother. Her father separated from her mother (though they're not divorced, of course, that would mean losing face) a long time ago. When he retired from the cops about 6 years ago he built a house in his home-province of Phitsanulok and took a mia noi, a cracking young bird in her late 20's. Three years ago, they had a son, who's now my GF's half-brother. How weird is that? I admire the Thai flexibility in these matters, the way that nobody criticises or condemns it, I wonder if that could happen in the PI?

there is no real parallel between Thailand and the pit of despair that is the Philippines. 

Thailand doesn't have a single slum that can hold a candle to the open cesspools that surround metro Manila and other major urban centers

I quite agree. 

 Both are very poor countries with ladies who want out of their current predicament. Having said that, in the rich countries the rich ladies when they go, they take your fill in the blank and vanish!

It's a social media post.  Of course it's gonna have generalisations.

I am at the stage of life, where I am delighted when a pretty woman talks to me. 🤭

 

Most of the Filipina are worst than Thai girls and they are gold diggers.on my personal opinion they are dirty , and their lifestyle in Philippines about 75% is beyond comparison to Thailand. And as per as their English ability, their pronunciation sucks , there are 1000 of stabs up comedy shows all over the world about their funny accent as well as funny way of saying things . 
if Thailand is so bad whey do they come here to work ? I saw Filipino working in country like Nepal, what yo talk about , UAE , Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Singapore, Hong Kong , China, Singapore, Malaysia and mostly domestic workers ( nothing wrong with that ) but at least not that many Thai women are working as domestic workers. Thai girls by nature are more clean and have access to better social life . I don’t mean to put down any nationality here but it’s funny when I see Filipino’s are making fun of Thais 

I'm still on the fence with regards to which will hire someone to kill you faster if the relationship goes sideways.  Leaning towards Thai women/family being less likely to do it but it's close.

A pot calling the kettle black...I have stayed in both countries for a while....at least most Thai ladies don't tell That much lies or steal more than Filipino women does...How "low is low"  to point fingers at other nationality ...

They certainly speak better English.
