Thaksin Shinawatra to Boost Pheu Thai Campaign in Major Comeback

Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is making waves in the political scene as he prepares to take the stage in Udon Thani next week. This marks his first public appearance since ending his self-imposed exile last August. Thaksin, at 74, is set to rally support for the Pheu Thai Party in the forthcoming Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) mayoral elections, which are scheduled for February next year.

Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit, a prominent Pheu Thai figure, believes Thaksin's involvement will energise the campaign. "I believe Thaksin’s role will be a morale booster for the party and the electorate," Suriya noted, emphasising Thaksin’s influence and expertise from his previous time in office. However, he clarified that Thaksin would be a campaign assistant, not overshadowing the party's activities.

Udon Thani, a Pheu Thai stronghold dubbed the unofficial capital of Thailand’s northeast, was strategically chosen for Thaksin’s return. His appearance on 13th and 14th November aims to bolster Pheu Thai’s grassroots engagement and reinvigorate local enthusiasm.

With candidate applications opening in December, the Pheu Thai Party is keen on securing vital seats in key regions, leveraging Thaksin’s star power to energise their campaign. His anticipated appearance has already sparked excitement within the party, giving their election strategies a notable boost.

Thaksin's return to public life began in March when he revisited his hometown of Chiang Mai with his daughter, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, receiving a warm welcome from influential figures, indicating his continued significance in Thai politics.

So was the talk about being barred from political involvement  just talk?

Did anybody ask him which wonder doctor or wonder medicine he is using?

Maybe that should be a new hub for Thailand: From sick to top fit in weeks.

They obviously believe we are all idiots; I for one cannot believe for one minute that Thaksin would be anyone's assistant in anything it is not in his nature. What ever happened to him keeping out of politics and him wanting to be with his grandchildren obviously all BS of the highest order, you cannot believe anything he says.

It is an uncommon medicine. Called the Baht... Have you heard of it. Miraculous abilities it has. Can make you deathly ill with instant healing abilities too.. It can even hypnotize people into doing things the way you want. It makes people disappear. Can kill if that is what you choose. It has so many remedies when using it. Solves many problems and creates them also haha..

Neither untouchable nor teflon. He was forced to flee Thailand for many years, and may yet have to do so again. He is loathed by many powerful people here

Youhve to think that Tony thinks he can snub the military adn elites and get away with it.  This is the same mistake that he has always made that led to his and hs families legal issues.

This will add to the court cases and requets to investigate the PT.

The question then becomes what do the elite do.

A. they can have the king demand an election ( risk PP getting a super majority 50% plus)

b. they can use the military method along with trying to overcome the mistakes they made last time and be a more enjoyable party.  (lots of uprising from  orange and red joined together)

c. the king can ask with the advisement of his advisors for the PP to attempt to form the new governement.  (remember the BJT control the senate so not a lot of things will get passed if they are anti elite)

Either one is pausible but option B gives the elite the best deal.

In which case you'd think he'd keep his head down and entertain the grandchildren at home like he said he would.

And I was convinced that khun Thaksin is not involved in politics...:whistling:

Im always struck by how much he looks like Hitler

They don't believe that anyone is an idiot, they just don't care. they have to be seen paying lip service to his promises, not actually keeping them.
