Seeking Agency for Smooth Crossing from Savannakhet to Mukdahan

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I've been in Thailand for six months in 2024. So far, I've entered the country three times: twice by air and once via the Friendship Bridge II (Savannakhet-Mukdahan).

I’m currently in Laos and would like to enter Thailand again soon through Savannakhet to Mukdahan to meet my girlfriend, who lives in Mukdahan.

Does anyone know of an agency or service that can assist with crossing the bridge and making the process smooth, preferably at a reasonable price?

For context, I hold an EU passport, age under 50.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Do you have any reason to believe that you won't be able to enter smoothly there on your own?

You could ask one of the visa run companies that offer trips to Savannakhet if they can assist.

I just want to be on the safe side. There’s no reason I should be refused entry, but I’d like to ensure there are no issues. I’ve never had problems before, but I’d prefer to work with an agent who can make the process easier for me. I’ll likely be crossing the border frequently in 2025 to visit my girlfriend, and I’m happy to pay $50–100 per entry for peace of mind.

I love Laos and Vietnam, but my girlfriend has a business in Mukdahan and can’t travel much, so it’s more practical for me to visit her. From 2021 to 2023, I lived in Hua Hin on a Non-B visa. Over that time and the past year, I’ve always entered Thailand through Bangkok or Chiang Mai flights without any trouble.

I’ve contacted a few visa run agencies in Bangkok to see if they could arrange for someone to meet me at the bridge. While they initially agreed, I haven’t heard back from them. This could be due to the high season, or perhaps I just need to wait a bit longer. I don’t want to be too pushy.

Thank you again for your reply and your willingness to assist.

You are over thinking things (imo)

Can understand concern if doing a border bounce from Thailand to Laos border. A minivan agent good for that.

However you are already in Laos so just rock up

Hmmm..........and more again in 2025 - looks like agent required to be "sure". IO maybe thinking you live in Thailand.

For your frequent visits next year I'd get a METV.  Laos joins the e-visa program at the end of this year so ought to be easy enough.  And I'd try to get the same for Laos to avoid multiple visa on arrivals (unless you're exempt or already have something in place.

They're probably your best bet. I haven't heard of any agents specifically providing "safe entry" services at that border, probably because it just isn't busy enough with "border runners" who are the ones who need such a service the most.

As the Thai consulate in Savannakhet will transition to issuing eVisas from January on, I don't know if (or in which form) classic visa runs to Laos will still be available next year. That might give some agents new ideas.

It would seem that no agents are reported to provide this service at Mukdahan, or at other law-abiding points of entry, because there is no need for them.   At Mukdahan, I have not seen any reports of denials of entry based on the excuse of "coming too-often" / staying too-long," which is not a legal reason to deny entry.

Even if you were denied-entry, you would just walk back to Laos, and cancel your Laos exit stamp.  Contrast to being locked-up at one of the Bangkok airports for failing to pay-up via their agents.

Thanks, mates! You’re absolutely right—I’m overthinking it. I’ll just go with the flow, and if any issues come up, I’ll head back to Laos. I really appreciate your great advice and support!

Sounds good! I’m planning to do the Thakhek Loop and the Pakse Loop before entering the country. The girl visits on weekends, so we're good for now. I’ll update you in about three weeks on how everything went. I’ll probably make a couple more trips in 2025 and keep you updated along the way.

Does anyone know if you can do same day border-bounce at Mukdahan? Or has it changed to one night minimum stay in Laos?

Have you been doing border runs previously. In particular this same crossing?

Haven't read any very recent reports re Mukdahan.

Perhaps it's matter of hope for best plan for worst. 1-2 nights in Laos.

- I have decided to stay a night :)

- Was on an ED visa for couple years, now I'm on exemption, this will be my third border-bounce since Oct 2024(1 in Chong mek, 1 in Mukdahan, this will be the second in Mukdahan) Last time the officer in Mukdahan was friendly but suggested getting a visa next time, so no idea if they added a note or something in the system.

- I have a brand new passport now with only transfer stamp

Need to be in-out quick as my partners father is very ill in hospital. Looking for longer term solutions after this.

The fact is there are alternatives now with eg the DTV.

New passport does not erase record of history in Thailand.

Seems like back to back bounce Mukdahan.
