A police officer under the influence of alcohol sparked terror in the Nong Prue community after firing a gun into the air and causing a chaotic scene. The incident occurred on December 7 at around 15:40 in the Khao Noi area near Wat Boon Sampan.

Pol. Col. Navin Sinthurat, Superintendent of Bang Lamung Police Station, received reports of a gunman shooting into the sky. Officers from Bang Lamung and Nong Prue Police Stations swiftly responded to the scene.

The suspect was identified as Pol. Sgt. Major Sunthorn Hemphan, attached to Najomtien Police Station. He was found heavily intoxicated, incoherent, and behaving erratically at his home, located at 93/9, Moo 5, Nong Prue. Witnesses reported seeing him firing multiple shots into the air. Police deployed over 50 officers to secure the area and ensure public safety, successfully apprehending the suspect within 30 minutes. A .357 caliber revolver and several spent shell casings were confiscated as evidence.

According to local residents, Pol. Sgt. Major Sunthorn is notorious for his habitual drinking, particularly of white spirits, and frequent cannabis use. His behavior reportedly often escalates into violent episodes, including firing his weapon both inside and outside his home. While residents feared for their safety, they avoided confronting him due to his position as a police officer.

The incident began with Pol. Sgt. Major Sunthorn allegedly firing his gun at the entrance of a Khao Noi alley and later down the street, alarming passersby. He then returned to his home, prompting residents to call the authorities. CCTV footage from the area captured the officer firing multiple shots into the air, providing further evidence of his actions.

Witnesses revealed that the outburst was triggered by heavy drinking and frustration after nearby shops refused to allow him to delay payment for alcohol and food. This rejection reportedly enraged the officer, leading to his violent rampage.

Pol. Sgt. Major Sunthorn was taken into custody and transported to Bang Lamung Police Station for questioning and to sober up. Authorities have launched an investigation and are preparing to take legal action against him in accordance with the law.

I had a drunken off duty cop waving his gun about on an overnight train some years ago.... as the only farang nearby I certainly didn't want to get his attention. A rather brave guard seemed to persuade him to go sit down and sleep.

Skint waster of a Thai cop should be relieved of his duties forthwith.

Aren't they embarrassed about this sort of stuff? It's pure face loss material, yet they allow it to continue. Bunch of jokers.
