Where are humans heading with all this ?

Featured Replies

Recently , reading various news articles , there seems to be a trend where we are giving more and more everyday tasks to computerized systems and AI.  I can't help feeling that somewhere down the line , for whatever reason ,  we might realise we have not been cautious enough but find it difficult to back track. Others are thinking about this too. Some scientists are also concerned and even Musk has chipped in. Then we can look at Ukraine and see how drones are being developed to wage war for us. Are we being the architects of our own demise ?

So is this a case of science fiction leading the way to science fact

Let's say AI can copy your voice perfectly and make phone calls to people and pretend it's you.    How much chaos would that cause?

Every argument I am aware of for pDoom fits into one of two categories: bad or weak.

The future speeds up for every day, and whats in the end, nobody knows, but being afraid and suspicious is wise.

It can quickly turn into paranoia though.

Maybe not afraid but rather cautious.   Computers can also make mistakes , get in a muddle , get hacked and crash. If it only means you can;t pay for your shopping at checkout because of a systems failure this is only a minor inconvenience. But if AI is given more critical work to do then has a big meltdown it can be a lot worse

We are heading for a future where most of humanity will be choking on its own rubbish.

Where the economic refugeeism of today will look minuscule, compared to what a changing climate will do to entire populations.

The rich will be insulated, the poor will not.

AI reminds me of a lyric from the Julian Lennon song - "We're so enchanted by how clever we are".

AI will make mistakes, just like humans do.

No wonder you voted for Trump, but I have to agree, humans are a self-destructive timebomb

The best surgeons in the world maybe have accuracy rates of 98% ?

Maybe AI surgeons will be 99% accurate ?

Self-driving cars will theoretically be much safer than human drivers. Except for situations where the laws of physics cannot prevent accidents.

Surgeons already use robots for many operations.

There are top level surgeons, and competent surgeons. Even lousy ones, Google Jayant Patel.

The difference is a brilliant surgeon has an instinct for the flesh he has under his scalpel, and somehow understands what he is seeking does not correspond to the standard anatomy diagram.

I don't know how AI would acquire said instinct.

I'd agree Thailand desperately needs the entire population to be in self-driving cars. And scooters.

Oh yes. Could not possibly be worse than it is

Psychopathic human "leaders" will destroy the world with nukes wayyyyy before Skynet is sufficiently self-aware.  And the programming of AI is still GIGO (garbage in; garbage out) and as AI models prove, bias is built-in from the get-go.  So if AI decides to eliminate humans, that was programmed to do so from the start.  Am I worried about it?  Nope.

Being suspicious and afraid is stupid.  Paranoia plus gullibility leads to weak-mindedness and hysteria. 👈 That is about 80% of the population.  Weak-minded and gullable people are easily controlled, especially via propaganda.  Hence mass-hysteria in places like the US in New Jersey.

😱 "SkyNet IS Going To Kill All Human Life!!! EEK!!!"

Pathetic  :glare:  Live like sheep, die like sheep.

Lets not ever talk about the mass-hysteria that lead 80+% of the population to believe and mild flu was going to end the world and only the government could save them if they would only give up all of their rights and except science-based Totalitarianism to be their new Lord and savior.  "Safe and Effective!"

Who to decide who's sheep and not, that is not a trick question. Both sides have theirs, and both sides call out the other side as sheep's

Why should I be afraid of AI.  Human "stakeholders" can do that right now by using AI.  👈  Dwell on that for awhile.
So, who are you afraid of again?  :glare:

Personally the term skeptic, be mindful without biting into it, keeping at arm’s length, watch and wait.

Yes that is happening but you can be prepared for that.

Where are we heading?

We are now just following in the footsteps of China.

They are out ahead, and so if you wish to know where we will end up in about a year, then look to China.

I wonder if they'll even make self-driving scooters. never thought of that.

also, with robotaxis you wont ever have to worry about being cheated by a taxi driver again. unless someone hacks the AI?

IIRC I think it was Yamaha who came up with a scooter that would not fall over.

I'm wondering who I would sue for injuries sustained in an accident with a robotaxi.

I can't say I have ever been cheated by a taxi driver here. I always agree the price before I get in.

The funny thing is that with all the advancement that's happened I still enjoy walking on the beach with my woman, cooking my own meal and reading the best way to spend my time.

I do love my kindle.

The most positive side to AI improvements is it will make what is viewed online less believably or at least questionable and therefore rejected more and more to the point where doing real things is more commonplace again. We will see.

No thanks. No matter how rotten the west is it's less rotten than China.

Easy. Sheeple think social media is a good thing.
