Earlier than that, too. A race had been planned for December 1939, but other things interrupted it. See:

"Bira also planned to organise a race in his homeland, Thailand, and the inaugural Bangkok Grand Prix was set to be held on the 10th of December 1939, but the war equally destroyed those plans."

Yeah, I think you are right - mine was just a guess, I remember the story now.  I have no interest in F1 at all, but I have been reading these posts for years on various places and I was interested by the story of Prince Bira and the continued saga of the proposal. Its nothing but a money grab now.

  • If it does happen, Thailand will finally be able to boast that there is 22 good drivers on thai roads.   Only there for a few days a year but let's not get bogged down by details.

I didn't say it's impossible. But looking at the existing traffic every day, how will it look like if they close many streets?  And then how will it look like if many people (try to) visit t

Sorry your wrong.  🙏

Formula 1 has visited Melbourne annually since 1996, with the exception of the COVID-19 years 2020 and 2021. Despite an ongoing contract until the end of 2025, a new deal was negotiated. This was announced in June 2022, with an extension until as late as 2035.Mar 1, 2567 BE

I can just see this happening,,,,,,, A the drivers have just come around turn number 4 speeds 200 miles per hour and what the hell its an old fat Thai lady heading down the track on her 3 wheeled pancake bike....... Race over boys.....

An F1 race in Bangkok?  This would be the perfect opportunity for the BiB to capture the Red Bull boy! 😉

The Australian F1 Grand Prix is on a street circuit in Melbourne.  It is run very well, but causes a lot of issues for the locals - and it costs a bomb to run.  If the (nearly) civilized West has issues running this event successfully - I seriously doubt Thailands' ability to pull this off.

So, in 3 years 😂 Never gonna happen... Just more noise from the office of the PM. Need to hoodwink the proletariat into thinking they actually have ANY ideas

Rayong would be the best location BUT does it hve the ability to handle the people and infrastucture.

Chatuchak is a good spot; however, you are closing off all buses in that area.  Access to the JJ market will be screwed, and traffic on Vibhadi Rangsit will be a  joke when it is busiest.

Not just for the race weekend but also for gearing up as they have to redo all the roads and routes.

The other catch is that the price for a ticket will be way out of the means of most people living here.

It might bring people to the city but again it is only going to benefit the 5 str hotels

The leaders only care about Bangkok when has planning making sense for these leaders come into play.

It might be a tough race for the drivers to adjust since the traffic in that area is usually faster than them.

Every day is an F'd 1 driving in Thailand:coffee1:

At least all the roads in the area will get completely resurfaced, will end up as the best roads in Bangkok.

You think resurfacing is the only thing needed? How about the drains in the middle of the road, or all the houses and side sois? Never gonna happen.

Re drains, I was writing metaphorically knowing Bangkok, that will be one of the biggest problems, if the F1 calendar say the race will be heled in the rainy season with Bangkok's history of flooding, they will be a lot of work to do, it is a big area to drain ,and where would the water go ?no nearby canals/rivers to take a big deluge of water from a monsoon storm, and the work would not be done overnight ,and at what cost?

Phillip Island has the MotoGP. .- for motorbikes.

Melbourne has the F1 Grand Prix, - for Formula 1 Motor cars

I hope they don't think the tax payers are  going to pay the bill for this,it's not free gratis.

When sorted and is annouced, about that time maybe mr redbull cases are history,Thaksim and daughter have more control and he is found  and watching the event in the VIP area along with thaksim and family

They have better roads there.

Thai people don't seem that interested in,F1. They have a Thai team Red Bull, a Thai driver Albon and love driving cars fast but I don't think they even broadcast it on Thai TV.

It's not broadcast on free-to-air terrestrial TV but Thais love it. Mark Webber did a few runs up and down Ratchadamnoen in 2010 and there were an estimated 150,000 people there. I was one of them and it was so packed they had to delay the start by quite a while to control the crowds - the Thais absolutely loved it.
