Just heard about this fire today, as we now live in Australia. I would have spent several hundred thousand baht in the "Mad Dog" over twenty-plus years. I started going there way back when it was called "The Overlander".  When I was working in C Mai, I put a minimum 8K baht a month over the bar. I went there almost daily when visiting C Mai last year, as they have always looked after me. I doubt the fire was deliberate, unless a jealous competitor was involved, as it is a very successful business. More likely caused by bad wiring or a gas-cooker leak - both common causes of fires in LOS. I have known the new owner for over twenty years - she will be devastated, but I am sure she will get the re-building going fast, assuming the owner of the site permits her to do so, as I understand that she owns the bar, but not the land. Luckily, rebuilding will be relatively inexpensive & if she does rebuild, I wish her every success.

Made some damn fine pizza's, was looking foward to going there when I do the loop again  in a few months time, hopefully re-opened by then.

I don’t remember but I think I’ve eaten once long ago. Can’t tolerate cigarette smoke and never return to an establishment that allows it. Walked by every now and then during one of my occasional city patrols, usually mid morning, always folks smoking and drinking for breakfast.

   Smoking was banned inside quite a few years ago , although you did get people sitting at the bar and then turning around and sticking their head out onto the street and smoking outside like that .

   Their legs and body were inside the Mad Dog and their head , hand and cigarette  was outside pavement side

Smoking ban is a joke. People gather outside puffing on cancer sticks and the clouds of smoke blasting inside the open building choking the patrons reason I do take away if ordering from a watering hole. We ate at a Japanese restaurant/bar in nim that doesn’t allow smoking but the cig smoke was horrendous. At least in the United States there’s a buffer zone and the doors are closed.

I really hope they can - are allowed to -  rebuild. New decorations have been done some months ago (floor and chairs) , so that's no luck. Girls were devastated. I really hope insurance will help enough. I am quite sure many former customers will be willing to help if necessary. Wait and see, but their Christmas Turkey will be a miss this year !

Drinking and smoking for breakfast and brunch? Sounds like a brilliantly convivial place to me and very popular too. I hope they cope with repairs and reopen quickly so that the same people can walk past with wrinkled noses (you know who you are).

   You can wait until someone gets their food delivered and then spark a cigarettes up and blow the smoke in the eaters direction and ruin their meal .

    Smokers enjoy doing that

You assume I am a smoker.

I gave up a +40/day habit over thirty years ago.

I cannot stand the smell of second hand smoke.

 

But I like to take the piss out of those who get all riled up about inconsequential stuff, including the non-smokers who pretend to know what smokers enjoy doing.

Yeah I agree Gai is a great girl I have known her 25 years + from the old escape days

It's had been smoke free for years 

Went in front of Mad Dog last Sunday to see if anything has changed ... I just took this picture 😞

Anyone knows if any decision has been made (rebuilding/leaving it) ... ?
