Japan dethrones Thailand as top tourist spot

Thailand has never been colonized.  Has a long history that goes back centuries. Just look up it on the Google.

So you can't? That doesn't make your argument sound very convincing.

Feeling trapped by your life's choices maybe? Maybe give Japan a shot, I hear it's marvelous.

Actually true, because my choice of a Thai woman led to the wrong one and with a child involved, my duty is to give her a bettter life out of here, but bot japan but back home in Texas.

In Japan very few people speak English and no rental contract will be in English, so unless you are fluent speaking and reading  Japanese, there is no possibility of doing a regular apartment rental on your own.

Airbnb is available and is the easiest way to rent an apartment for a few months or less.

Language schools can also arrange apartments as you mentioned.  This is what I used when I stayed for around 6  months and studied Japanese.

Longtime Japan resident here.

In most major cities there are rental agencies that specialize in housing for foreigners. They will take care of the guarantor issue for you. For a fee of course…

Is this acceptable to your standards?

Not really. Making a claim and then, when questioned, simply inviting people to read the entire history of Thailand just doesn't make for a solid argument.

You should be able to summarise what it is that you think makes Thailand's history as you claim.

I never invited anyone to do anything.  Just replied to you.  Why would I "summarise" anything for you?  What is this a final exam and you are the test proctor?

Easy on your trigger Clint..............

It's hard to call Japan expensive compared to Thailand. A budget stay in Japan is far more confortable than an medium cost stay in Thailand.

You can rent a nice flat in Osaka for $20 a night and it'll be well built and organised. Something of the same cost in Bangkok is often poorly built and half broken (even if it was only built a few years ago).

It's cold for the winter and houses have no insulation, but at least you can walk on the streets without them being a deathtrap and choking on the fumes. Food is a bit more expensive, but far higher quality. Although stuff like grapes is crazy expensive as it's grown for beauty and gifting.

Police is probably similar in both countries and you don't want to get on their wrong side when you're a foreigner.

The dream is to live between the two and make the most of the different benefits they both have.

Thailand rules! I can only imagine the ladies in Japan being way too expensive for short time!

Only losers worry about the price of prostitutes.

If you have not travelled to Japan in the last 12 months, you might be in for a bit of a shock about hotel prices in Tokyo, Osaka, etc, as prices have surged with no slowdown in demand, in line with the collapse of the yen vs USD.

My colleagues in Tokyo are now trying to limit domestic travel as business hotel prices are stretching our budget.

Yup, I miss living in New England, four seasons, where I can go hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, camping. We even have Cape Cod or many other beaches for summer if needed, skiing opportunities, and a ton of great food (my wife especially misses her New England Lobster Rolls) Like you said, after you've seen a few large temples and other attractions, it starts to all look the same and boring. On top of that, we get to deal with non-stop traffic and people who want to kill us with their cars, motorcycles, buses, taxis. Then there is the pollution, which ruins almost any outside activities, if the scorching sun doesn't. I absolutely love to go for a drive, here I dread it, so I am in no hurry to explore much more of this cesspool.

Where in New England? I used to deliver cheese to Grafton, Vermont when I lived in New Jersey. Visited a friend in Massachusetts. My dad hunted in Vermont and possibly Maine. I always wanted to and probably will when I move back to Texas. Beautiful country.

Western Massachusetts, not far from the UMASS in Amherst.

Real country. Why are you here?  Ha  My friend was in Springfield and we drove around that area in the country. Very nice and I was thinking about the deer hunting while I was there. You weren't far from Quabbin Reservoir, which I heard about reading Field and Stream or Outdoor Life magazines.

Planning my 7th trip to Japan. Better food, clean air, no plastic everywhere you look, proper infrastructure, parks, free national parks, etc.. You feel welcome there.

Japan truly deserves all tge credit it can get. Thailand? Thailand has found itself in a freefall of things that go wrong.

Are you too ugly or lazy to find a real girlfriend and have to rely on love-for-hire?

Japan continues to be a popular choice for Chinese tourists, despite the need for a visa.

So, that's where they went instead... 😆

Guess, there are other things that attract Chinese tourists than just getting in visa-free.
