Two Iranian nationals were arrested after allegedly robbing a Vietnamese tourist of 150,000 baht in a brazen street-side theft in Bangkok’s bustling Yaowarat district.

The drama unfolded yesterday evening, January 6, when a 27 year old Vietnamese tourist approached police near the Hotel Royal Bangkok, claiming she had been attacked and robbed. According to her account, she had just withdrawn 150,000 baht in cash, stashing it in her waist bag before sitting down to relax. Moments later, two men and a woman approached her under the guise of conversation, but things took a sinister turn when they demanded to see her money.

“I showed them the cash but suddenly they snatched it. I managed to recover 100,000 baht, but they strangled me, grabbed my collar, and lifted me off the ground before fleeing with the rest.”

Phlapphla Chai 2 Police Station officers, led by Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom and other senior commanders, acted swiftly. They caught two suspects, 34 year old Amer Hossein Niazifar and 35 year old Safieh Latif Davoud, after a brief chase. Both are Iranian nationals who reportedly couldn’t communicate in Thai, prompting police to bring in an interpreter.

While the suspects denied all charges, the victim identified them as her assailants. Officers charged the pair with joint robbery and launched legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

Police are now working to recover the missing 50,000 baht and bring the third suspect to justice.

Thank God! Don't need horses of chain-smoking Chinese polluting the area.

Good work by the police, i hope they recover the money or at least get the robbers to empty their bank accounts until she is reimbursed, or they can stay in cells until that time comes.

Ahhh.

Nothing says RELAXING like withdrawing over $4000 USD in cash and sitting down on the street with your money bag talking to Friendly Hashshashins, I mean Persians. 😳

Was she planning on opening a noodle shop in Chinatown* or something?!?

*Not much of a "town", more a novelty street

Another bright spark. Why?

Ooh!  Can Sharia Law apply?

"Theft (stealing in secret) is punished by the amputation of the offender's right hand, and armed or highway robbery may be punished by execution, crucifixion, or amputation of hands and feet from opposite sides of the body, depending on the severity of the offense."

Think this qualifies as highway robbery...

I thought they were more into getting pissed a lot, fidling about with ladyboys they seem strangely drawn towards oftentimes each day, doing drugs, rep9rting getting robbed, and flagging off sunni Muslims, and generally speaking just let go of themselves. Ot to mention making bombs and on one valentine's day lobbed a couple at a taxi which wouldn't stop for the Iranian geezer in question. I assume his latest attempt to woo some bird he pulled didn't pan out as he hoped. I suggest you refrain from making bombs and loving them about, Not only is taking the mickey big style, you'll have a hell of a job finding a cleaner if you leave them lying about the place as theyndon't do dusting down bombs usually .try something your friends will be more easily impressed by like making train model sets or trainspotting.
