How do US citizens get credit for PIT paid in Thailand
How would a US citizen who paid income taxes in the US, get a tax credit from the IRS if they had to pay taxes in Thailand on the same income? For example, a US citizen (Thai tax resident) remits 2MM THB to Thailand (all assessable monies), and pays income taxes in Thailand on that 2MM THB. I can't see the IRS just giving a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for taxes paid in Thailand without knowing the make-up of those monies, whether they were previously taxed in the US, or not taxed in the US, and from what tax year those remitted monies were derived. For example, if they were non-taxed monies from a Roth IRA, why would the IRS give a tax credit if those monies were not taxed in the US. I would think the IRS would want to know the make-up of the remitted monies and in what year they were derived. Sounds pretty complicated to me. -

“enforcement, that's negated by various amounts of Bhat.” “Enforcement!! that will be a First for Thailand !! but its not clear as to Who ?? is going to enforce this” – I think anyone who has spent some time in Thailand is aware of the all pervasive present of graft, nepotism and corruption and how it affects enforcement, as are those trying to prevent these fires. I think these comments above are largely the use of cynicism to cover ignorance. “I was out in the hills today in the NE” – NE of where? “….and it wasn't bad at all. I think it is improving the last few years but still awful. There definitely is more enforcement and fires are put out in many cases. In the past they just let them die out. Don't think we will see the mass burning in 10 years but might just be a hope..” I don’t think personal anecdotal evidence has much value – in Thailand overall fires are increasing largely due to climate change – the old practices of swidden agriculture were fine so long as the fires are controlled, unfortunately these days vegetation is much drier and burns more ferociously and then extensively. Around Chonburi and Rayong provinces, it is not particularly biomass fires that present the problem as much as gases, fires and pollutants released from the sprawling industrial complexes nearby “Huge tracts of government land burned near us yesterday……all along the roadside verges, miles of it……the government or local government is actually orchestrating this burning…….WT?” As said above, controlled burning is a common practice unfortunately the warmer, dryer climate means that burning out of control becomes more common. All this burning releases more greenhouse pollutants, amongst them PM2.5 particles – these are particularly dangerous as they are able to pass straight through your lungs and into the blood stream. In the Northern provinces tens of thousands of people receive hospital treatment every year as a result respiratory diseases become permanent and life expectancy is reduced. While I knwo fear of tanrishing it's reputation would quash my idea, I sincerely wonder if it'd be useful for Thailand to make a pamplet for incoming tourist to read telling about such things as this lad's mysterious death, Emphasizing such things as travel insurance and such could help to prevent many of the sad cases we have read about on TVF with someone in a hospital needing a procedure but lacking the funds to have it. -

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Does anyone have seen or heard about tow bars for trailers on any of the more budget like EVs? I know that the Thai don't use trailers that much, but maybe some rural area guy would have this? Most likely the BYD shark would have this option, but even the Riddara pickup would still be at the very upper end of my budget. Therefore the most reasonable option for me would be some Neta, Dolphin or so with a tow bar and a trailer which I would bring from europe. -

But there is nothing there to help us. Perhaps a form of pension, but that doesn't make it non-assessable. It appears withdrawals or payments FROM the provident fund, or any provident fund, are taxable as pensions, unless covered by DTA There is only a line item for deduction of contributions TO the fund, which you could only take if you were employed in Thailand. That would not apply as any money you put into the fund in your home country, stays in your home country, and can't be remitted or claimed as a tax credit.
