A 27-year-old man died after accidentally discharging his shotgun while riding a motorcycle in Buriram Province. The incident occurred on the Buriram-Prakhon Chai Road near Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Samed Subdistrict on 24 January.

Police Lieutenant Nantikan Amphawan, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Muang Buriram Police Station, along with Sawang Chanyatham Buriram rescue workers, responded to the scene.

The victim, identified as Mr. Songchai “Tom” Chao Suan from Ban Sai Subdistrict, Prakhon Chai District, was found lying next to his overturned motorcycle, bleeding profusely. Rescuers rushed him to Buriram Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. A medical examination revealed 19 shotgun pellets lodged in his chest.

According to Mr. Songchai’s sister, Ms. Nuengruethai Chao Suan, her brother had gone out riding with friends, though she was unaware he was carrying a firearm. She was informed by one of his friends that his motorcycle had crashed and rushed to the scene, not realising he had been shot.

Mr. Nutchai “Bas” Dasi, a friend riding alongside the victim, said they had been exploring the city to see decorative lighting along the marathon route ahead of an event scheduled for 25 January. Songchai had been leading the group when they noticed his motorcycle overturned by the roadside. Upon approaching, they found him bleeding heavily and crying out for help.

Police investigations suggest that the victim had a shotgun tucked in the front of his clothing. It is believed the gun accidentally discharged as he adjusted it while riding, causing fatal injuries.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to confirm the circumstances of the incident.

Definite Darwin candidate - Sad loss of life but one does have to ask what was the purpose of the shotgun.

Who the heck brings a shotgun on a motorcycle to see decorative lighting?  Skeet shotng at nighttime?

This surely must be an entrant in colorful Thai ways to die vol 8 🤔

Must have been a sawed-off shotgun which are illegal in the USA.

Also, best to keep the safety ON, when not prepared to shoot something.

Was this shotgun loaded with Bird Shot?
