Picture from responders. A staff shuttle van crashed into the rear of a 10-wheeler lorry in Lopburi, leaving the driver dead at the scene and seven passengers injured. Authorities suspect the crash was caused by the van driver falling asleep at the wheel, as no skid marks were found at the site. The accident occurred on Highway 21 (Saraburi-Lom Sak) at kilometre marker 36/900 in Khok Salung Subdistrict, Phatthana Nikhom District, during the morning of 20 February. Police Lieutenant Kongsak Mukdamuang, an investigator from Khok Salung Police Station, received the report and immediately coordinated with emergency responders from Phatthana Nikhom Hospital and Ruamkatanyu Foundation. Upon arrival, rescue teams found a white Toyota van with severe front-end damage. The driver, identified as Mr Anupong, was killed on impact, his body trapped in the wreckage. Seven employees, both male and female, were injured, with some in critical condition, and were heard crying for help. Rescue personnel provided first aid before transporting the injured to hospital. Approximately 300 metres from the crash site, an Isuzu 10-wheeler lorry with a damaged rear was found parked on the roadside, its number plate having fallen off due to the impact. Preliminary investigations indicate that the lorry had been travelling in the left lane while the van, carrying employees to their morning shift, slammed into its rear. With no evidence of braking at the scene, police suspect the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Authorities have detained the lorry driver for questioning and will interview the injured passengers to determine the exact cause of the accident. -- 2025-02-21 -

Frankly I would have thought that it is the better solution to not have a new German army involved in an arms race for planetary dominion. But if push comes to shove, I think the economic power and resolve of all Europeans combined would be well sufficient to make all kinds of uncomfortable scenarios true. This proposal, outlined by Pakorn Nilprapunt, the CoS Secretary-General, aims to limit gambling access to individuals with considerable financial resources. Pakorn noted that the draft is under its second review, with the public invited to provide feedback until March 1 through the CoS website. This public response will shape subsequent deliberations. The CoS plans to present the refined draft to the cabinet 50 days post the feedback deadline. Pakorn framed the Entertainment Complex Bill primarily as a tool to boost foreign tourism, incorporating stringent measures to deter most Thais from patronizing local casinos, addressing prevalent gambling concerns. Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat clarified that the bill's broader agenda includes curbing illegal gambling, attracting foreign investment, and stimulating economic growth. He voiced concerns that the financial stipulations would exclude a majority of Thais from legal casinos, risking a continued reliance on unlawful gambling dens or establishments in neighbouring countries. The entry requirements, poised to restrict accessibility for locals and promote economic boosts through controlled tourism, are scheduled for reassessment at an upcoming cabinet meeting. The decision will play a pivotal role in the future landscape of Thailand’s entertainment and gambling sectors, balancing economic interests with social considerations, reported Bangkok Post. -- 2025-02-21
