Now this a turn up farang stealing from a Thai wife. Normally the foot is on the other shoe. This is happening every day Farangs getting scammed and it is not nice feeling.  I must admit some are just stupid others not smart. An old friend years ago was working in mining in West Australian and flying back and forth to Thailand.  When he retired, he had to live in Australia for 12 months or wherever he needed to get a pension. Nowhere to go no house in Australia no money as Miss  Issan was spending as fast as his salary came and all of a sudden, he no good. He decided to end his life so sad. The land of smiles and Crocodile tears beware.

Wasn’t really much of a relationship. In the good times she used to see him 3/4 times a year and didn’t seem that worried when she didn’t see him for 2 years.

 

Sounds to me like the guy used to see her when he happened to be  in Pattaya and maybe even didn’t know that he was “married”.

I don't think karma is a concept familiar to westerners generally. Certainly, Ian has no understanding of it because if he did he would know that bad things are going to happen to him as a result of swindling his (ex-)wife.  He should repay the money as best he can and apologize.

This is kind of a refreshing story in a sense that the shoe is finally on the other foot. We hear so many stories about foreigners being scammed by women who are opportunistic, perhaps the Thais can learn something from this episode. 

 

Compassion? Decency? Fairness? Honesty? Too much to ask?

Usually it works the other way round where the husband is the "cornuto"; if all such stories would be published, the internet would have exploded decades ago. What makes it so special when a British block apparently (unproven) cleaned out his Thai spouse. You want a (long) list of acquaintances where husbands and boyfriends got cleaned out nicely for much more money and assets than this poor child of Lalaland? 

My advice to her is to take it up with the competent courts of Thailand and try to take him to the cleaners - good luck!
