  • Another attack on Trump and Musk by another non-American.   How exciting and original.

  • Tell me how helpful your comment was to those affected.   What makes you think your military pension won't be affected by Musk's eager beavers as well?

Zero chance of that. They aren't even trying to reduce the deficit. It's all about more tax cuts for billionaires.

OK, what SS cuts are scheduled? I have read they are eliminating payments to dead people and other fraud but this is only a good thing if your team does it?

DOGE schedule? 555

I've seen no evidence of dead people receiving SS. Only Musk saying people 150 years old were getting it. No evidence. Typical MAGA nonsense.

Well the below took a few seconds to find.

I myself knew (dead now and probably isn't receiving SS 🙂 ) an individual that was receiving SS payments that from a dead person.   The proof of life is easily taken advantage of for expats.  How much fraud?  Not a clue but have a feeling it is far from inconsequential.  Should we not try to eliminate this fraud and try to determine the amount?  You seem to think the better solution is to falsely deny it exists.

As an expat, proof of life has to be given every year.  Or the benefits will be stopped, so maybe 2 years at most lost per expat receiving.

Haha. Your screenshot conviently excluded the meat of the article. Any you didn't provide the link to back it up. Typical MAGA moron nonsense.

Well. Here's the link.

https://time.com/7258453/trump-musk-social-security-dead-fraud-fact-check/

And here's what it really says.

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is falsely claiming that tens of millions of dead people over 100 years old are receiving Social Security payments.

Over the past few days, President Donald Trump and billionaire adviser Elon Musk have said on social media and in press briefings that people who are 100, 200 and even 300 years old are improperly getting benefits—a “HUGE problem,” Musk wrote, as his Department of Government Efficiency digs into federal agencies to root out waste, fraud and abuse.

It is true that improper payments have been made, including some to dead people. But the numbers thrown out by Musk and the White House are overstated and misrepresent Social Security data.

At the time it was 2 years if I remember correctly and I bet there are other means to take advantage of the system.  Lots of ways the system can be taken advantage of IMO. I would really like to see actual proof of all the claims that are being discussed by the current administration.  Hope that happens in the next 6 months.

The fraud is that there are no payments to dead people.

DOGE has very high approval from the people as a whole, but the grifters super hate it.

OK, but left leaning media would disagree.  Social security is far from healthy and needs to be dealt with or just wait until piggy bank is empty.  Is that what you propose - just ignore that there isn't enough money and at the same time ignore fraud?  Maybe fraud is a minor issue but you and I have no idea if that is the case.

They need to collect more money by raising the caps and taxing the rich. Where are the military cuts? That is where the money went.

After watching Musk on a recent vain attempt by Joe Rogan to regain a modicum of popularity he has now lost, I got the distinct impression that the US
Social Security system is soon to be under enormous stress. Reports suggest that over 6,000 employees of the Social Security Administration have

already been relieved of their duties, a fact that should give some US citizens pause over what may become of their monthly payments.

I have no dog in the fight as I am not American and don't even qualify for any pension due to being out of my own country for most of my adult life, but I have several American friends who are highly dependant on SS, no pun intended. Any thoughts on this, or do you see it as just another "conspiracy theory" that will never happen?

You gave it away ! You aren’t American and you don’t have a dog in the fight!

Think of it like this! Im American and i

can tell you  that millions of Americans

are over the age of 100.(unbelievable)

The new administration is investigating whether they’re collecting old age  Social Security Security Benefits, or Social Security Disability Benefits.

“Later, in a post on X, Musk posted a picture of a spreadsheet he said was from the Social Security database showing the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to false. It showed more than 17 million such records for people over the age of 100”.

https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/acting-social-security-chief-opens-up-doge-claims-dead-people-receiving-benefits

Furthermore starting in 2023 through

April 2024,  3 billion records were breached in the largest Database breach in history ,among the breach, were millions of USA social security numbers found on the dark web.

Im one of those victims.

https://www.strongdm.com/what-is/national-public-data-breach

The above happened and there was no investigation or extreme curiosity as to the Reason.

If you are collecting disability benefits,

your friends might be legally scrutinized under a legal review process .

Well said

The system is ripe for fraud, waste and abuse!

Can someone steal your social security

number according to to AI , yes.

How widespread is Social Security fraud?

There are two common types of Social Security fraud involving immigration: When people who aren’t eligible for a Social Security number either steal one or create a false one so they can try to get a job in the U.S., and when people who aren’t eligible for Social Security or Medicare benefits use a fraudulent name or Social Security number to claim benefit payments.

Here's where the Republicans really are on Social Security, per CNBC:

Trump plan would make Social Security insolvent in just 6 years, budget group says

Published Mon, Oct 21 2024 2:40 PM EDT

"Key Points
  • Donald Trump’s tax-cut plans and other agenda items would hasten Social Security’s insolvency, a nonpartisan budget group said.
  • The Republican nominee’s proposals would also expand Social Security’s cash shortfall by trillions of dollars and lead to even steeper benefit cuts in the coming years, the group estimated."

Here's where some prominent Democrats are on Social Security:

NEWS: As Republicans Attempt to Undermine Social Security, Sanders, Warren, Schakowsky, Hoyle Introduce Legislation to Expand Social Security

"WASHINGTON, Feb. 27 – As Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress attempt to advance legislation to give massive tax breaks to billionaires and undermine Social Security, Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee's Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions and Family Policy, and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), along with Reps. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) and Val Hoyle (D-Ore.), introduced the Social Security Expansion Act. The legislation would expand Social Security benefits by $2,400 a year and ensure Social Security is fully funded for the next 75 years by applying the Social Security payroll tax on all income above $250,000. Importantly, this legislation would not raise taxes by one penny on the over 91 percent of American households who make $250,000 or less." [emphasis added]

Where does anyone think Trump and Musk are going to come down on this? Protecting billionaires and millionaires, or preserving Social Security and providing a financial safety net for the 91% of American households earning less than $250,000 per year?

The DOGE attack on various federal government departments is just the opening salvo in the Republicans attack on various federal programs that help support and protect the American non-millionaires and non-billionaires. And part of their movement to convince Americans that they can't rely on the federal government and its workforce to protect them against... who else... the millionaire and billionaire liars like Trump and Musk.

And more from the Trump Admin cutting into the Social Security Admin, per AARP:

Social Security Administration Plans ‘Significant’ Staff Reductions

AARP calls for reassurances from SSA on commitment to customer service

Published February 28, 2025

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced plans this week for a “massive” restructuring of its operations that “will include significant workforce reductions” affecting thousands of jobs.
...
The Social Security Administration had seen staffing shrink even before the recent announcement. SSA’s workforce had shrunk to a near-50-year low and attrition and hiring freezes were hamstringing efforts to improve customer service, SSA officials told AARP last year. [emphasis added]

According to SSA performance data, callers to the 800 number waited 30 minutes on average to speak to a representative in January. The average disability application took eight months to process, compared to four months in January 2020. [emphasis added]
