Thai Political Party Faces Allegations of Funds Pilfering Scheme

In a revelation that raises eyebrows over political integrity, allegations have surfaced that approximately 10 million baht in taxpayer money, earmarked as monthly pay for advisers to Thai senators, has been siphoned into the coffers of a political party via "mule accounts". This purported financial impropriety, pointedly involving up to 138 senators, suggests a breach of public trust and widespread systemic abuse.

Each senator is entitled to employ five advisers, each receiving a monthly salary of 15,000 baht from parliament. Yet, instead of compensating these advisers, funds were allegedly redirected through intermediary accounts to an unnamed partisan beneficiary, ultimately benefiting a political party closely allied with certain senators. Akhrawat Pongthanachalitkul, a senatorial contestant, flagged these concerns, highlighting the 'siphoning' as a form of money laundering.

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI), tasked by the government's Special Lawsuit Committee, has gathered evidence of these potentially illegal transfers. This development comes hot on the heels of ongoing investigations into electoral rigging, underscoring a backdrop of political intrigue within Thai governance. With the Pheu Thai-led government intensifying scrutiny, Justice Minister Thavi Sodsong oversees the DSI inquiry, focusing on senators' alleged financial misconduct.

As the investigation unfolds, the spotlight remains on the senators and their affiliates, with potential legal repercussions looming. If charges are proven, implicated senators could face asset seizures and the possible loss of their parliamentary seats, reflecting a broader commitment to political transparency and accountability in Thailand, reported The Thaiger.

Say it ain't true....

There will always be corrupt people when there is little rule of law. Thailand needs to put more senior people in jail.

And that hits the nail on the head, as the Thai 'version' of Buddhism allows them to become a Monk/Nun for a short spell, Make Merit, do a few dozen Wai's and all will be forgiven and even forgotten !    A Country that just lives on excuses for all wrongs, no matter how serious those wrongs may be.

One person's corruption is another person's discretion.

Discretion, the power to decide or act according to one's own judgment, can be a breeding ground for corruption if not properly regulated and transparently managed, as unchecked discretion can lead to abuse and opportunities for illicit gain

in other words Corruption !

I thought pilfering money, corruption, theft etc was the "raison d'être" for getting into Thai politics, political parties, etc

Discretion transparently managed as in the Police Order we discussed? That whole thing exists because the 'legitimate reason'  was not transparently managed.

It doesn't say which political party.

It's obviously a party many senators support and vice versa.

I hadn't thought of that but I checked and your right.

I suppose this answers my question.
