IRS to Lose Billions in Revenue If Migrants Stop Filing Taxes

Recommended Posts

The report underscores the role undocumented workers play in paying into Social Security and Medicare benefit programs that they can’t draw from in retirement because of their immigration status.
“The IRS has historically made clear to the undocumented immigrant population that their tax information is confidential and would not be used in such ways,” the report said. Tax compliance could fall among that group “if they become concerned that filing taxes could expose their personal contact information to law enforcement and be used to facilitate their deportation.”

So the US is dependent on illegal workers to survive

Not survive, "Frank", but thrive. A country can survive without thriving. Take Russia for example. It still survives despite being an economic and political basket case. Without the nukes it would be like Saudi Arabia without the oil - nothing.

The US OTOH, if it can keep it's vast pool of illegal workers doing the jobs no American wants, then it can thrive. The health of the US economy rests on the shoulders of the lazy, but at the same time job stealing, illegal immigrants.

So you are justifying illegal immigration and illegal workers?

It would be better if there were a legal way for these people to come to work in the country. But if Republicans were sincere about enforcing immigration rules, just make it a very serious felony to hire undocumented aliens.  And devote lots of resources to prosecuting those who violate that law. I haven't seen proposals for that from Trump. Maybe because he knows that his rural supporters depend on illegal labor. Over 50% of employees in the dairy industry are undocumented aliens. They should be easy to round up. Haven't seen any evidence that ICE is raiding dairies. They seem to be focusing their efforts on cities that favor Democrats.

Why and how on earth would "undocumented" workers pay tax ?

they are "undocumented"    therefore have no documents to prove who they are or their status  or their payments into the system  they don't exist in the system  as they are undocumented  ????

Most are folks waiting for their visas. This often takes YEARS to complete.

Now reports of further resignations at the top end of the IRS .

This represents something all Americans should be concerned about - the independence and, of course, legality of IRS decision making  and the privacy and protection of taxpayer information.

Lots of fears too that the IRS are becoming less able to do their day to day duty to ensure people pay their fair amount of tax with sackings and what not.

And Republicans have been making it their issue for decades. But because they're Republicans they are not going to go after the owner class in a serious way.

You mis-spelled "illegal alien."

Funny you should mention that!

Embassy.

Visa.

Apply.

A legal way to apply that meets the economic needs of the country. And if they were legal, then it would be a lot easier to make sure that they were paid according to the law. Which would reduce the incentive for hiring them in the first place  Of course, if the minimum wage was raised to a live-able level that would be even better. But Trump and his followers seem to have a horror of the minimum wage even though that's the most effiective way to make sure that the poor and working class get a living wage.

It is also illegal to hire them. The fact that you focus on these people and not on their employers speaks libraries full of volumes. If Trump is really serious about stopping undocumented aliens all he has to do is devote lots more resources to prosecuting employers who violate the law by hiring them, And get new laws passed to make the penalties for doing so a lot more severe. Why don't Republicans focus on that?

Apart from Bush, democrats have been in charge last 20 odd years, or perhaps it didn't bother you until Trump

How many  years have they controlled both houses of congress and the presidency? Obama's first 2 years and Biden's first 2 years. And they got a lot done. Even though in Biden's case he had the narrowest of possible majorities in the Senate and a few Dinos to contend with.

You misunderstand.

"A legal way to apply" exists, unless they're North Korean.

They need to attend a US embassy or consulate in their home country and obtain an appropriate visa.

Then they'll be legal.

Then they'll be documented.

Gosh, some might even be classified as immigrants!

Nyet, try reading my post again. I'm explaining the situation as it is.

Lose billions in tax revenue. Save billions in education, prison, emergency room, law enforcement, etc.  At best, a wash. Hell, New York City alone has spent $5 billion on services for illegal migrants in just 2 years, according to Mayor Adams.

There is no industry that has a majority illegal worker workforce.  There is no such thing as a job that an American citizen or legal resident won't do, only jobs that they won't do for pittance wages.

Like the idiot congresscritter Jasmine Crockett said, "who's gonna pick the cotton?" She wants a permanent underclass of pseudo-slaves to do the scut work at peasant wages.  What a racist.

"A report from the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) reveals that immigrant workers account for 51% of all dairy labor. Moreover, dairies that employ immigrant laborers produce a staggering 79% of the U.S. milk supply. Dr. Robert Hagevoort of New Mexico State University, speaking at the Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council (DCRC) Annual Meetings last week in Arlington, Texas, says he believes the true percentage may be even higher, as the NMPF report goes back to 2015."

That being the case, surely then logic dictates that the sensible, practical and certainly in terms of the IRS lucrative thing to do would be to arrange some sort of permit or visa which allows them to live, work and pay tax in the US?

Less gratifying perhaps than having Honan's goons roaming the streets of Democrat governed cities, smashing car windows to drag people out of cars whilst they were waiting for their lawyers, lifting them on the streets and then transferring them to detention centres at the other end of the country to keep one step ahead of "habeas corpus"!
