So much winning that people lose confidence!

https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/consumer-confidence

"The University of Michigan consumer sentiment for the US plunged to 50.8 in April 2025, the lowest level since June 2022 from 57 in March, well below forecasts of 54.5, preliminary estimates showed. Consumer sentiment fell for the fourth straight month, and has now lost more than 30% since December 2024 amid growing worries about trade war developments that have oscillated over the course of the year. Consumers report multiple warning signs that raise the risk of recession: expectations for business conditions, personal finances, incomes, inflation, and labor markets all continued to deteriorate this month."

Great news if you support climate change. Hopefully everyone starts buying less garbage and polluting our blue rock.

Not such great news for the economy.

In addition, Inflation Expectations hit the highest rate since 1981.

The guy who campaigned on his supposed ability to bring down prices isn't fooling anybody. Oh, and eggs hit an all time high price, despite Bird Flu now somewhat under control.

I thought your messiah said that we'd all have so much money we wouldn't even know what to buy?

Funny now how Recession and economic decline are a plus.

Well, if you really believe that, I understand why POTUS could be your hero, because if anybody can make a huge mess of what was a robust economy under Biden, it's POTUS47. Anybody who can bankrupt 5 casinos and an iconic hotel is a natural born economic cyclone.

Most of his bankruptcies stemmed from the fact that he paid too much for assets. In other words, he got outnegotiated.

What a moronic rambling post. Trump is nothing to me you really need to understand some basic concepts.

Not such great news for the economy.

But the current capitalist system as we know it may come to an end soon. Possibly, perhaps. Depends whose agenda gets pushed. If the WEF gets its way, then almost certainly.

Precisely to counter-act the conflict between endless GDP growth and the impact on the environment.

As far as I can tell, I cannot connect the dots to this with anything Trump is doing ... not yet anyway.

But perhaps people can start training themselves to be less reactive .... like if the S&P 500 doesn't go up 20% every year, maybe it doesn't need to.

Sounds good to support climate change. Surely you concur there's better ways to do it than tanking the economy - poor economies are normally the worst polluters. To state the bleedin' obvious Trump has no good climate or environmental policies I know of and many outright bad policies so hopefully if you are American you are looking for alternatives.

Yes a population culling would be far far more effective. I'm thinking about 70 or 80 percent will do just fine.

Just another 'hate Trump' thread

Its macro economic news to most people who don't politicize their every thought. The economy is heading for a recession.

With the current anti-vaxxer idiot as Sec of Health that could happen very soon if/when a deadly new virus pops up. Let's hope that if that happens, using a mask will greatly reduce the chance of getting infected. That way the next MAGA candidate will at the most get 10% of the vote.

Noted.

90% of the threads are now in 'Political Soapbox' forum ...

... go figure :coffee1:

Economic speculation from the mentally ill ... IMHO

Seems to be a common theme on AN, no matter what the comparison is, too funny ...

... Trump - bad

... Biden - good

Lowest since 2022, when who was president.  BUT, not as low as 2022, when who was president :cheesy:

Come on. That's the COVID-19 period, early 2021 to 2022 You're ignoring the recovery period which is clearly illustrated there.

Great news! Too many people are consuming way too many things! It’s madness! Especially in Asia where its overpopulated. If we dont stop producing and buying craps we dont need. Its the end.

it’s time for a global degrowth, right now.

It's not news.  It's a forecast by the same fidiots that thought Bidenomics were great, then predicted Harris was a shoe-in.

For a dose of reality, here's Victor Davis Hanson's question #5 of 10...  About tariffs.

There are a dozen good reasons why consumer confidence is lower than it's been in decades, the largest among them is The Saboteur in Chief, who's insane seesaw and schizophrenic policies are driving the world crazy.

Economics, trade, and consumers need stability, and Trump might be the least stable man in America. He thinks he's negotiating when all he's doing is destroying.

Really? The University of Michigan predicted that?

self-driving cars may reduce car ownership ...

they might be so convenient and cheap that many people think it's not worth to own a car anymore.
