So not really interested in teaching then, too many like you which is why English is so poor here. Thai kids deserve real dedicated teachers, not people using the job just to be here.

What is your job in Thailand btw?

but still, many Filipinos in Thailand are working as teachers. That means Thai schools dont have a problem with their diplomas

They also don't have a problem with paying them half of what they pay Westerners.  🤔

Why such a negative reaction? You can solve your problems somewhere else.

You are the one with the problem, teaching just to stay here does not get more negative

IMO a degree from the National University of Samoa won't have the same cachet as Oxford.

But if the degree is from the University of American Samoa, then it Saul Goodman!

Which other learn language website?

You need to Google that one 🙂.  I taught Science on iTalki and there was a huge demand for me to teach primary grade science in English to students in China.

Do you really know many people like me? That’s interesting you know them, because I don’t know you at all. But seriously Id love to have your ability to perfectly gauge a person from just a few sentences.

Whether you like it or not, the 'few sentences' you mention are revealing.

Many folks can share stories about unqualified / unethical 'teachers' who regularly miss work and it seems often enough on Mondays or Fridays.

Also turn up in class with no preparation whatever and/or show cartoons / you tube vids not relevant to the class, etc., for several hours every day with no analysis of the English heard and not connected to any function of English which should be an anchor point for lessons.

And disappear for an hour to go to nearby coffee shop to smoke etc. And arrive back into the classroom 30 / 40 etc., minutes late after lunch, leaving the kids unsupervised often needing the teacher in the next room to swap between rooms to keep the unsupervised kids in line / take the noise level down.

Also regularly arrive at work smelling of alcohol.

I'm aware of one case of a US girl employed as a math teacher for primary kids. Regularly she asked parents sitting outside the class room to help her / teach her.

One big example, the 'teacher' girl came out of the class room, approached several parents and said 'tomorrow I have to teach long division but I don't know how to do it. Can one of you (parents) come into the room tomorrow as an 'invited expert'

and teach the class or teach me long division at lunch time tomorrow? '

Parents complained, she was dismissed on the spot. That class had several fill in teachers and/or no math teacher for about 45 days.

Why such hustle? Philippines diplomas has bad history: 15+ years ago they were sold on the Internet for about $500 up to $1.000 including official records, unlike plain fakes from Khao Sarn Road.

As being not native speaker might be a big deal - although I saw big schools in Bangkok where teachers was from UA and even UZ.
But I feel sorry for little kids who "learnt" from farangs who only want to stay TH. I met this biological <deleted> very often.

There are so many better deals and more exciting in TH, than pretend that you're teaching to the kids who pretend they understand even a bit.

Hello, I want to work as a foreign language teacher in Thailand, and for that, I need a bachelor’s degree, which I don’t have. I didn’t find many schools in Europe—almost none offer completely online studies. However, I discovered universities in the Philippines that offer fully online programs at very attractive prices, around 1000 euros per year. I’m wondering, if I graduate from such a university, won’t that be a problem in Thailand? Won’t the Thais expect, as a Westerner, that I have a university degree from Europe? Thank you for your opinions.

Look.... if you want to legally work in Thailand as a teacher. Your degree needs to be from an accredited school that is listed online in that website. They can and will check to see if the school is listed but not in all applications. Only then will they issue you a temporary teaching permit good for your time at one school. Then you can get a work permit.

Taking an online course from the Philippines is a mistake. Many fake schools offer this as well as paying to have a degree in your name in the Philippines. Those degrees are rigorously checked in Thailand because many filipinos came as teachers and it was learned they had fake degrees. Also, I do not think the Ministry of Education accept degrees from purely online classes.

Then you will need to take a TEFL or TOEFL.

If you are not from a native English speaking country you will need to take the TOEFL.

As someone else asked. Why are you wanting to be a teacher in Thailand. If it is purely just to stay and have fun, do it on a tourist visa and make visa runs to Cambodia or Laos or Vietnam every 60 days.

Being an English teacher in Thailand is a lot of work usually as well as dealing with the schools bureaucracy which is a job in itself. You also should have a love for teaching kids and be knowledgable in how to do it. The TEFL will only teach you the subject and some ideas to help teach. It does not prepare you for being a real teacher.

Won't be more exciting to run your own micro brewery? Or small "shpikachki" kitchen? If I understood correctly you are Czech - those are more native for you than to anyone, even brits.

Simple (and very dumb) question - have anyone had a chance to get decent one of those in BKK? Even that nice german guy (owner) at Soi Cowboi serves horrible sausage plate (although made in a house and he must know the real taste).

Friend from FR runs a pizzeria at Koh Chang - he has so many friends/connections! He's like a celebrity in the small circle of friends.

My point: set something that you can do best and not everybody. Here are so many "tichas", some are not even qualified to <sorry obscene >. Anything but "ticha".

I will be working on my TOEFL and studying university online in the Philippines.

Thai authorities stopped accepting online degrees a few years ago, with the exception of the Open University. They cannot be used to get a work permit for teaching anymore.

If you are looking to get on with a good school down the road, I suggest you aim higher than an online Philippine B Ed.
