Why even spend time worrying about it?  Does it matter? 

Take it as good feedback about how you come across. She might be shallow but the issue of being Hi so or not might relate to how sociable, charming, and tuned in to the world you seem rather than only about money.  Talking about exes on a first chat - even if asked - is not likely to lead to anything positive in how you are perceived. 

Fact is if that's on her mind - and not something you care about as is the case for most men - good to find out now.

Was your ex-wife from Issan?  Lots of people from central or southern Thailand are quite prejudiced and look down upon people from Issan, they often view them as 'Thai hillbillys'. 

 

She may consider you to be lo-so because you learned to speak Thai with an Issan accent.

Re the last sentence, that's the thinking of my extended Thai family. One extended family member in particular is totally convinced that all farang have unlimited money.

 

The Thai man involved (a middle aged overweight loud know all about every subject  is now the brother in law of my Thai son.

 

When my Thai son was arranging his wedding to lady boy's sister the lady boy told all extended family members (regardless of age, employed / unemployed or whatever) that after the wedding they would all be receiving 50,000Baht a month from the Australian government.

 

He told me son he had informed all the extended family they would be receiving 50,000Baht a month. My Son told him taht's not true at all.

 

So lady boy called the Australian embassy in Bkk and asked what the family members had to do to start receiving 50,000Baht a month. The embassy staff told him this was totally not true.

 

Ladyboy shared this with my son and added 'you can't trust farang embassy staff they tell lies.

Thais are all about image. If you are rich you are considered high class. I have tried without success to explain that real class is in how one behaves. Such is wasted on those as shallow as the Thai.

Right.My exwife from surin.I speak street thai means short words.Easy to understand for a thai because thats the way they speak to each other.I have a friend from UK who learn thai in a language school for 3 years When he and his wife visit us he couldn't follow what we talked about He said to me that he rather learn street thai.I noticed if i meet a person from fex Bangkok i have to speak thai slowly because they dont understand my short words.

My exwife learned me to speak khmer too..thats actually easier to learn because strong R
