Just got a notice while I'm back in the West that I have until April 30th to make sure my BKK app phone # matches my SIM card, or I can no longer access my Bangkok bank account app on my phone.

Anyone else get this message?

I just used my app.... and there was nothing like this showing. Perhaps you never had it verified when opening your account. I have 2 accounts on my app and have not been issued instructions this way.

Onequick note though, My original phone number is registered to be with wifes account jointly. So perhaps that is why I have not seen anything like this

Thanks but verified when I opened it 3 years ago along with my facial picture in 2022

This one is tricky, postpaid SIM accounts are restricted to Thais. I went to DTAC and presented my passport and ID to register my name as the user of the SIM. I then went to Bangkok Bank and registered my IDs and facial recognition details. I have not heard from either for a while.

Seems that this problem is selective …I’ve had a post paid phone account for many years … at present with AIS …my BB app is working ok and as yet haven’t been asked to visit the bank.

Just got a general ad/advertisement at the top of my BKK app to make sure I CONFIRM my Sim card matches my name before April 30th in the app or i lose BKK mobile bank access.

I don't think my thai sim card works abroad so i feel utterly screwed.

Never asked to verify, though seems silly to, if bank sends msg to phone # on file that you opened the account with.  Unless someone has your phone & suspicious transaction done.

Did have to verify me, online (phone) with facial recognition, when changing my 'transfer limit' setting.  Though that was cool, and excellent security measure, having to blink, to avoid someone simply holding a photo of me for verification 👍

Other than than, as mentioned, never need to verify.

Not sure what to do-

https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2952406/govt-crackdown-on-mule-accounts-with-new-mobile-banking-rules

Mobile phone/electric bill etc all in wife's name while im back West doing some work.

such a headache.

guess i'll lose mobile app access to my Thai bank account?

Get the Online Bkk Banking app. Doesn't need a phone number.

It will be easy to solve when you are back.  And if your number is registered to your Wife that wont be a problem as it is allowed as an exception to the rule.  However, that wont help you now as you'll need to go into a branch with ID, etc.

My inclination would be to call the bank - does the app have an internet call option (Kasikorn certainly does)?  I have found the Thai bank customer service lines far superior to those of my UK banks.

Might be an issue with that, or at least minimal services available....

  • In case of applying with a B-First ATM/Debit card, you can do the following:
    • Check balance and account activity
    • Transfer money between accounts linked to the card
  • In case of applying with a credit card, you can do the following:
    • View your card spending history for up to 3 billing cycles.
    • View your Bualuang Thank You Rewards points
  • For other services, you can apply for full service at ATMs or Bangkok Bank branches.

No, I did not receive this up to now.

But changing the owners name at an AIS outlet is a 5 minute job.

Mines worse,

Bank app locked for transfer or payments until I visit branch to update personal details.

Yes, this happened to me too. But visiting a branch and doing the needful was painless. But on that day the waiting was long due to many customers.

My BKK Bank account is registered to a phone number that is also registered to me. I have not received any such notification. I am overseas at the moment, outside Thailand.

You'll be fine.

They "should" only be sending notifications to those where the names don't match.

No, they are not.

Many foreigners have postpaid SIM cards

Postpaid Sim cards are not only for Thais, I am using one since many years. I know others who do as well.

Can you tell what you need to get a postpaid?

Bank account? Deposit? Work permit? Visa/extension?

I've changed the name of the post-paid True SIM from the missus to my name to match my SCB banking app about a month ago. Passport and bank account with debit card needed. It took just 10 minutes at a True shop.

Just what I was told by DTAC.

I suggest you check with your mobile provider. They all have English speaking call centers. Or just drop by at one of their shops. I am using postpaid since so many years and cannot remember the requirements by AIS.

None of those.  But my then girlfriend had to be guarantor.  However, that was some years ago and I'm certain it will be more difficult now.

If you registered for their online banking via website (ibanking), you can continue to use it.

Went to DTaC ......... SIM in wife's name, can't change name without wife there.

Went to Bangkok Bank ......... can't update details, needs to be home branch.

Pointed out the message in my non working app says 'any branch'

Passport number wrong ......... no that's my passport number from 2005, I've already updated it once or twice with BKB but the data doesn't seem to stick. Pointed out they've been issuing me new cards and bank books along with immigration letters for the last 9 years using my current passport (almost run out now), and I had my 9 years out of date passport with me.

Somehow their cannot became can, can't believe how lazy the bank staff are!

45 minutes later and a tree worth of photo copies, my hand hurts from the 100 signatures.

New ATM card, new passbook, phone banking still not working.

Yes I got the same message and had to visit my BKK Bank Branch to verify my SIM with my Bank account. They asked to see the last bill which showed my name and address in Thailand and they compared the info with my bank details.

Can't you log onto to the Bangkok Bank web site and do transfers that way when abroad if your bank app doesn't work on your phone?
