A majority of Thais are calling for an urgent reshuffle in Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's Cabinet, with the Commerce Ministry topping the list, a recent NIDA Poll reveals.

Conducted from April 5th to 9th, the survey engaged 1,310 individuals across a variety of backgrounds to voice their views on a potential cabinet overhaul.

A significant 48.24% of respondents expressed it was high time for a shakeup, while only 16.18% disagreed, suggesting it wasn't necessary yet. Meanwhile, 15.50% propose waiting another three months, and 10.07% see a six-month delay as rightful.

The urgent call for change sees the Commerce Ministry as the primary target (57.02%), closely followed by the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, Prime Minister's Office, and Labour, all around the 40-50% mark.

Officially appointed on September 3rd, 2024, the current Cabinet is facing criticism for unmet campaign promises.

Key pledges, such as raising the minimum wage to 400 baht and ensuring a starting salary of 25,000 baht for university graduates, remain unfulfilled. Additionally, critics have spotlighted the government's failure to curb electricity charges.

Economic concerns are further fuelled by falling prices in key agricultural sectors, including rice, maize, rubber, tapioca, and sugarcane, marking significant drops compared to last year. As the pressure mounts, the demand for a responsive and timely government response intensifies.

Lovely uniforms and impressive rows of medals but.

Clearly more attuned to wartime duties than to running an economy and reforming a nation's culture.

Is another coup coming?  PM Thaksin Shinawatra was couped in 2006. PM Yingluck Shinawatra was couped in 2014. Now that Thaksin’s daughter and proxy Paetongtarn Shinawatra is PM the coup clock may be counting down.

Paetongtarn is the third leader of the disorganized progressive coalition since 2023. Members of the coalition have advocated cutting military spending and reforming the Lese Majesty law. The 10,000-baht giveaway was populist vote buying that did nothing to address economic fundamentals, and increasing the minimum wage while unemployment is rising is not wise.

The economy is worsening with factories closing and unemployment rising. The coup clock is ticking and the worsening economy combined with the disorganization of the coalition suggests that it is just a question of when, not if, the conservatives coup the progressive coalition in the name of protecting Thailand.

The reshuffle won't change anything.. There need to be new elections and reforms to get changes... Former MFP would have done better but the old conservative guard has already proven that they are not able to bring the country any economic progress

Were there any expats among the 1,310 individuals asked for the survey ?

Now that we have to pay tax and all ?

And what a joke...1320 persons polled out of possible 66+ million persons of voting age...not what I would call a substantial poll quantum or meaningful analysis

After being in SE Asia for past 16 years...  I know the formula of becoming multimillionaire here and be a ruling elite. ..

1. Keep the population under educated... for example only 47% in Thailand complete higher education.

2. Give them limited access to english language so that they don't understand or be able to seek much awareness.

3. Keep feeding them with inputs that they are the best and other countries are not much good.

4. Time to time dole out freebies to public and keep accumulating wealth self (ruling elites).

The masses over the decades will believe in the loop and carry on to believe that their masters are the best...

4. Time to time dole out freebies to public...

You mean promise freebies / big freebies but never deliver.

We want some competence, we want some experience, we don't like nepotism, and we don't like appointments based on cronyism and money and power.

How about some qualifications for a change?
