Popular Post webfact Posted May 1 Popular Post Posted May 1 Picture courtesy of Koh Phangan police station via Bangkok Post Koh Phangan, home of Thailand's infamous full moon parties, is back in the spotlight with a bold new crackdown on public nudity. Signs forbidding unclothed escapades have sprang up on local beaches after numerous complaints about tourists stripping down. These placards prominently warn of the island's nudity ban, threatening violators with the prospect of having their visas revoked, as underscored by Koh Phangan's police chief, Pol Col Apichart Chansamret. Authorities, doubling down on preserving public decency, distributed leaflets to both tourists and local businesses, emphasising the consequences of breaking these particular modesty rules. Zen Beach and Secret Beach, known for their beauty and tranquillity, have become hubs for this dubious display, with foreigners often found sunbathing, frolicking, and even creating art in the buff. Sadly, such actions, however harmless they might seem, directly infringe upon Thai laws, with offenders facing fines of up to 5,000 Thai Baht. Island resident Thawil Ruangthong expressed concern over the trend, noting a growing number of visitors flagrantly disrespect local culture by going au naturel. The crackdown gained further momentum following the recent arrest of a Polish couple caught in an uninhibited embrace on a public road, underscoring the island’s commitment to clamping down on indecorous behavior. As authorities continue their campaign to cultivate cultural respect, Koh Phangan seeks to balance its reputation for freedom and fun with a respect for local customs. With the new signs in place, both residents and visitors hope the message will resonate with the sun-seeking tourists that flock to this idyllic hotspot. Though the island remains a vibrant destination, it is clear a line in the sand has been drawn, highlighting the need for mindfulness when enjoying Koh Phangan's pristine beaches. Popular Post ikke1959 Posted May 1 Popular Post Posted May 1 If I see the pics it seems that even men have to wear a Tshirt just like the netizens, who are afraid of being tanned.. So tourists come to Thailand, pay an entrance( which is coming), fill in forms, get double pricing, cvan't have a beer between 14.00 and 17.00 and now you can't swim without a T shirt, and maybe even a bikini is too much nudity.. 5 2 3

Popular Post FlorC Posted May 1 Popular Post Posted May 1 Pretty sad really , this is 2025 or for them 2568. Do as some other countries and have dedicated nude beaches. 1 3 2 3
Robert Oi Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Can someone translate the signs? As an English speaker looking at the sign it would appear you cannot go topless (men or women?) Internationally, it is perfectly acceptable for men and women to be topless on beaches. Bottomless might he an issue, sure. Are bikinis allowed? Ambiguity like this is not helping either side... 2

The sign uses the Thai word "pleuay kai". I have only heard the word "pleuay" in relation to nudity. It does not specify different rules for men and women 1
jcmj Posted May 1 Posted May 1 They need to up that fine to at least 10,000 baht to get it the attention it needs. May seem high for Thais but it’s still a small fee for most foreigners and you definitely don’t see the Thai nude bathing or swimming. 2
Antiparovian Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Just returned from stay at Secret Beach. Sadly did not observe nudity 1
cedel Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I think they even encourage denunciation for thai people as I see 2 sentences written in thai only with phone numbers.. 😡
newbee2022 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 No warnings only but actions. Cancel the visa and out with them. The media will report those cases viral. 2
pacovl46 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 So males have to wear t-shirts at the beach now?! That’s would be ridiculous! 2
Popular Post Grumpy one Posted May 1 Popular Post Posted May 1 There is no way I would go to any beach naked The thought of Green Peace members rushing to push me back in the water is a nightmare 3
richard_smith237 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Two people are caught sunbathing in the noddy and this triggers a crack-down ??? While I agree that the tourist should have been told in no uncertain terms to cover up correctly, the announcement of a crack-down seems an almost xenophobic over-reaction based on faux-outrage... ... there are far greater crime concerns than someones failure to dress appropriately. 1 1

The sign is simply a poor illustration that women cannot go topless or naked, and males cannot go naked. Existing Beach wear - Shorts, Bikini etc remain perfectly acceptable... exactly as common sense would suggest. 2
ronster Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Why did they not put the following sign up as it's quite obvious and much cheaper to make !! 🙈 🦫 🙈🍆 On the beach !!

NativeBob Posted May 1 Posted May 1 kids play: who will enforce that law? based on what exactly? Wishy-washy? also: it is not a criminal offence, and Immigration Police has nothing to do with it. While observing public decency is a job of local policemen. And finally - are they going to bring pictures of nudee tourists to the judge? Ridiculous! That poster/banner looks like a pure fake for the purpose to extort money only. Smart move!

KannikaP Posted May 2 Posted May 2 According to the Headline, must ladies lie on their front in order for a crack down? 555
smew Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Tourist numbers are down and they are enforcing another rule, wrong move. Allow certain area to be nudist and promote it. This will give police a great opportunity for tea money by arresting peeping perverted people. win win situation,

Stargeezr Posted May 2 Posted May 2 For the liberated people, go where the nudist beaches exist, if you want to display your nudity. Thailand is a Buddhist country and is quite conservative. I like the Thailand people, food and climate which is tropical. I do not like the pollution so try to avoid being in any of the cities for any length of time.
Sydebolle Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Me thinks that nudity is the smaller problem on the list of activities on said island .... just saying 1 1
