When was the last time that you spoke with a foreigner?

When I go back, it won't be a walk in the park, but almost the same as it was before , as I can find many rent to owns there, and the schools are much better for my daughter, so that's a major reason, besides being able to do what I like more. Moving is the hard part.

No rent to own deals for people as old as you Fred.

touché 👍 Nailed it.    I've been living in the same house over 20 years, back in the day it was RARE to find a nutter, these days most foreigners are aggressive, hostile fruitcakes.

I talk with farang and Thais every day. I don't go looking for either of them. Frankly, the more people I speak with, the more I like my dog. And I don't even have a dog.

  • My God! What a fantastic topic. I wonder where all are this time, to point out that people are trash talking foreigners? I mean, as soon as I point out ne that has done something stupid or behaved bad

Guess again. I can still get a mortgage also.

First I give them the disrespectful glare!!!!  Shame on you for not working, lazy farangs!!!!!  Then I take their picture and give them the sex pat look of disgust!!!!   I'll speak Thai and flash my 5 baht gold chain!!!!     Eye contact only for 0.000004 seconds, then shake your head as if you have just seen the worst human on Earth.  Stare at their tattoos, shake head again!!!!   Elephant pants, laugh!!  Dirty hippy hair, laugh!!!   This is a great way to make friends and influence people.  We are social creatures, so it's nice to see the great evolution of the insecure farang.

I stopped worrying about all this rubbish in my 30's.  Yea, shame of me it took that long.   I'll comment because it cracks me up.

Another massive time waster is worrying about America when you grew up in (name any place outside of America).   You won't get an American passport just because America lives in your head 24/7.

Again, Buddhism.  Relax....and remember, they are likely mocking you as well.   Hey, remember that bitter falang???!!?!?!

" Hey, remember that bitter falang???!!?!?! " Yes Ive just read diatribe by him....LOL

Thanks for taking my advice on paragraphs.  Easier than teaching a dog a new trick.

”guess some aren’t too swift at reading”

For someone that repeatedly screams the word “insult”, you certainly have no problem issuing them out.  Bear in mind I’m not insulted as I can read well but some forum members may be.

How am I wrong if it’s my assessment?

Have you heard of the old saying?  If the shoe fits, wear it.

I never take advice from people I know are wrong. Look what you said before my comment; guess some aren't too swift at reading". You called for paragraphs, when I was writing paragraphs. If you can't understand a paragraph of a few sentences, that's on you. I don't repeatedly scream the word insult. I apply it where necessary.

What's also on you, which is an insult, is calling , again, 50% of foreigners nutters and the other 50% hermits. Sorry you can't fathom this, but you're wrong, and since 50 plus 50 makes 100, you're referring to all foreigners here as nutters or hermits. Do you not understand how demeaning that is? If the shoe fits indeed.

I say it because it’s the truth.

Are you offended?

Offended by showing that you're insulting all foreigners here? I'm neither a nutter or a hermit, and of all the foreigners I know here, none fit that label either, which alone makes your assessment "An assessment is a process that aims to be evidence-based and objective"............ wrong. You have no evidence of what you stated, aren't being objective, and only, wait for it,.......... are assuming.

When someone says, Im not like that, you know,

🤓  Just humor, and admit, Thailand is a crazy country, and by choosing to live here, you need to be a little bit ,,,,,,,

How do you know everyone was insulted?  Did you ask every farang in Thailand?

Did anyone directly tell you that you were a hermit or a nutter?

I do have evidence of my assessment.  Contact with farangs in Thailand.

My assessment is exactly that.  Mine.

Paragraphs are preferred.

How do you know 50% of foreigners in Thailand are nutters and 50% are hermits? Did you ask every foreigner in Thailand? Did anyone tell you directly they were a hermit or a nutter? You have contacts with how many foreigners in Thailand? Is it all of them, so you could make such an assessment? Hardly, so again, you're assessment is wrong, and again, your assumption.

This is so you can read and perhaps understand what constitutes a paragraph...................https://wts.indiana.edu/writing-guides/paragraphs-and-topic-sentences.html

Those nutters getting to you Freddy?

Nah, I think it's fun to prove people who are arrogant and assume things wrong.

Was unaware one could get all that in Podunk, Issan.

When you read someone's reply, it's always best to know the whole conversation and not come in near the end and assume things.

Is a hermit an insult? Is it that bad for someone to be a hermit? They're not bothering anyone.

The nutters on AN must be getting to him.

No. Nothing wrong with being a hermit besides the possibility that the isolation comes from depression, which only gets worse and isolation is many times the precursor to suicide. This is AI but a good description of the two ..........

Potential for Insult:
  • Negative connotations:
Some might view calling someone a hermit as a criticism, implying they are socially withdrawn, awkward, or have a negative relationship with society.
  • Derogatory usage:
The term can be used in a pejorative way, suggesting they are odd, unusual, or undesirable. ........
    Not Necessarily Insulting:
    • Self-identified hermits:
Individuals who choose to live a solitary life may embrace the term and not find it offensive.

How about you.  Do you live in a farang bubble?  Or a Thai bubble for that matter?

Neither, living in a Bangkok neighborhood that has a good mix. And my answer to your question is: yesterday! I speak with Thais every day and with foreigners probably 2-3 times per week.

If the real life is what we communicate with here at this forum, I would say, that is self describing my my situation. Im so far away from most of the members with very few exceptions when it comes  to Intellect (not necessarily super smart, but socially and logical) and also lifestyle, culturally, emphatically, consciously, as  well interests.

One fact is that no one actually knows anyone here unless they meet in person, and won't know much about them unless they spend quite a bit of time with them. . I'm sure some lie and exaggerate here but why?

I tell things as they are, as this is supposed to be a foreigner forum where foreigners can help others who are in much the same boat.

Of course some here brag about things, and others have to defend their position because of unsociable trollers and people who are only here to argue for the sake of arguing, and not contributing anything more.

Bragging about how much money, cars or gold you have means nothing to anyone besides the hero worshipers like those who follow the Kardashians. Who cares? They're not impressing anyone besides the teen minded.

In a forum with this many members, there will be those that are rich, poor, weak, strong, ignorant, narcissistic, intelligent, sociopaths, hermits, outcasts, criminals, and some that hurt others because they can.  None of us knows anyone here unless they meet.

In person, just before I took the family to the UK, about 6 weeks ago, but I chat with 'farang' friends in Thailand daily via Line or Whatsapp. These are people I've known for years and have met, I don't include 'virtual friends' on forums.

It's unusual to see westerners here in Hat Yai, and certainly not to talk to, so it's only when I go up to Bangkok, which is about every six weeks, heading off to work.

It was a joke. Of course no champagne with a ribeye. That would be better suited with a Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. Tannins are necessary.

Merlot is too sweet to match with ribeye. Cabernet Sauvignon is pretty mild. A big Shiraz would be best.

Last time I spoke to a foreigner was about four and a half years ago. It was the last time I spoke English, too. I live outside Nakhor Sawan, if it matters.

In real life, what is the quality of the interactions people are having?

What are people mostly talking about in bars? Or wherever you meet?

If the interactions are positive, fine.

It has to be like-minded people who will not waste your time AND people who actually wish you well and are not envious when you talk too much about yourself.

And like-minded people that you can actually trust are few and far between.

Sometimes the best interactions are just talking to a stranger once. You might meet a guy at a breakfast place and he might start to tell you about some things he's experienced in his life, started a business here, lived there, etc. That might be interesting. Some people have interesting life stories. But it doesn't mean you want to meet up with them every week. I met one guy who approached me and he told me about how he got scammed by a Filipina girl when he was living there. He got her a green card and she screwed him over. Then he invited me to a pub with a bunch of his friends and I took a pass. I will not just meet up with a bunch of strangers in pubs and start yapping about myself. Too much likelihood of shady characters being present.

That is so snobbish and a complete farce.

Any wine goes with anything.

People drink Coca-Cola and beer with just about any meal, so why should wine be any different?

The wine snobbery is one thing that gets on my nerves.

The "matching nonsense" and the ridiculously over-priced bottles out there.

Sorry.

This I have experienced numerous of times, and also with my then gf now wife sitting next to mo, describing how Thai women’s nature truly are.

The last one I told to just take a hike, I was not interested to hear his biased generalization about Thai women.

If you single and need excuses for still being single, I can understand it is interesting, but for me, who never had a bad experience with women in general, it is rude and unnecessary information. Why would I need to listen to someone who degenerate women in general, especially Asian women when my wife sits next to me and understand ever single word he is saying?

This is not one single incident but happens everywhere, in restaurants, at  sports bars, but never ever happened at more established higher ranked hotels, night clubs and restaurants. It comes with the price you are willing to pay to have a good evening out.

I don't speak to Russians, for a half dozen good reasons. Speak to other foreigners often. Why wouldn't I?

That is a paragraph. How do I "seem" isolated? Have you lived near me and saw how I live? No, so that's yet another of the many assumptions made on AN. You can have your opinion on how many nutters there are here, but it wouldn't be valid because you have absolutely no idea how many unstable foreigners live here. What does get out more mean? Are you assuming that I stay in my house 24/7? Do you actually think that a 68 year old man who has had 3 wives, 6 kids, and about 100 girlfriends, is a hunter, fisherman and had worked for 45 plus years has never left the house?

Being a hermit isn't good for your mental health, social interaction is important

Why do you cop an attitude towards people with money Freddy?

In my observations the people without money always have issues with people that do.

Rarely the other way around.  Why is that?

BTW, you mentioned you’re going back home in one of your posts.  Will you miss all of the fantastic non-nutter farangs you have encountered when/if you actually depart the Kingdom?

No attitude towards people with money, unless they got it by raping the earths resources for profit. You know, the ones who's only agenda is living the lifstyle with no thoughts on who or what they're damaging. Yes, I'll miss my non nutter friends here.

You should follow your own advice on paragraphs.

Based on my experience and observations of nutters in Thailand.  More so than the hermits.  Willing to drop them down to 40%.

BTW, why do you consider a hermit an insult?  Once again you interjected that term, I didn’t.

I do follow my own advice on paragraphs. They shouldn't be all one liners. Like I posted, calling a person a hermit can be an insult, and it seems like that's what your intention was. If it wasn't, I apologize.
