Panic struck Chon Buri's bustling Amata City Industrial Estate Phase 10 today as part of a factory building unexpectedly collapsed, crushing vehicles beneath and prompting a mass evacuation of terrified workers. The incident unfolded on May 16, in the heart of one of Thailand's most active industrial zones.

 

Eyewitnesses described the collapse as "explosive," recounting how steel and concrete noisily cascaded onto cars parked below. "It was like an explosion—just one huge crash and then chaos," said one visibly distressed worker who witnessed the event.

 

Remarkably, police confirmed that no injuries or fatalities occurred, despite the considerable destruction left in the collapse's wake. Photographs from the scene reveal extensively damaged vehicles, with caved-in roofs and metallic debris scattered across the parking area.

 

Emergency responders swiftly arrived, securing the area to avert further dangers. Investigation teams are now hard at work determining the collapse's cause and ensuring the safety of the remaining building structure.

 

As the news spread, concerns about construction practices and safety protocols within the industrial estate grew louder. The estate, home to numerous factories and thousands of employees, is now under scrutiny for its safety standards.

I'm sure everything was built to high standards, this was just a case of bad luck

Unfortunately, building inspectors here can be bribed, allowing them to build unsafe structures.

 

I'm not saying that's what happened here, but I'm not not saying it.

Yes, I was thinking the same as I drove down Hwy 36 only last night where much of the lighting was out. In a busy and high speed area, where there are many U-Turns, madness.

Yes of course, a non Thai example might be Ronan point. That too had building build quality issues of paper stuffed where mortar was required. This is what happens when QC is resolved with brown envelopes.

What does a building collapse have to do with safety on Thailand Highways?
