A 51-year-old Australian man has been arrested after allegedly vandalising a rescue booth while intoxicated, in what he claimed was a drunken misunderstanding. He was later found to have overstayed his permission to stay by nearly a year.

The suspect, identified as Mr Nathan James Webber, was detained by police on 22 May following an incident two days earlier, when a booth operated by the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation.

According to police, Webber was heavily intoxicated at the time. After his motorcycle reportedly broke down near the booth, he heard voices over a two-way radio and mistakenly believed someone was inside. Seeking help, he attempted to enter the booth by forcing the door open, smashing the glass in the process. Once he realised the voices were from a radio and not a person, he fled the scene, leaving behind his motorbike.

Tourist Police later located Webber at a property in Soi Najomtien 8 and arrested him at approximately 16:05 on 22 May. He admitted to being the person seen in CCTV footage recorded at the scene.

During questioning, Webber explained that he had been heavily intoxicated and confused. Believing there was someone inside the booth who could assist him, he forced his way in. He later encountered some of the foundation’s volunteers but was unable to communicate effectively due to the language barrier and his level of intoxication.

A subsequent background check revealed that Webber had overstayed his permission to stay, by 343 days. He will now face charges by Pattaya City Police, before being handed over to immigration, for further actions.

Looks like he doesn't even have enough money for a pair of "thongs" - let alone a visa........

No mention of.weed but sure he is a pothead idiot

51 year old acting like a 15 year old. Pathetic tale. On overstay. This does cause one to wonder how he supports himself. He can't be particularly wealthy if he drives a motorbike,  barefoot, dressed like a resident of a Salvation Army hostel.

This reminded me of a guy I saw yesterday at the lights on Third and Klang in Pattaya about 6.15pm. Big guy on a largish ADV bike with a large box on the back, Thai lady between him and the box. His bare right foot was hovering above the ground - I could not see his left.

Unless you had a medical reason why would you drive a motorbike with no footwear........

A lot of righteous comments from the hang em high brigade here.

The gentleman’s motorbike broke down so he did the right thing seeking assistance from the rescue team and accidentally broke a door.

He had had a couple of beers which he admitted to, he wasnt tested so absolutely no proof that he was over.

And forgot to fill out a few forms at the immigration office.

Nothing malicious.

Extremely rare for a 51yo aussie to have no money, unless he has a mental illness

Thanks very much for that, unfortunately a spat my coffee out laughing, especially the bit about accidentally breaking the door, I'll have to make another one now 🙂,

Poor spin.  The door was closed and locked.  It was obvious that there was no one in the booth because he could see threw the glass, no one was there.  If his intentions were pure, why did he run away and make no effort to take responsibility for the property damage he caused?   He could have left a note with his contact information. Or he could have come by later in the day, or the next day to say, sorry and offer to pay for the damages. Instead he ran away. That is malicious.

Why was he on overstay? That makes him an unauthorized immigrant or as many people like say an illegal immigrant, a criminal in Thailand.

I guess that was a misunderstanding as well

Another Aussie? Deport him and blacklist all Aussies from entering Thailand. They're doing no good for this country.

  • Popular Post

So he is on overstay, a year, so instead of giving himself a low profile, he actually brings attention on himself??

Not the shiniest penny in the roll!:whistling:

Never met a decent Aussie in Thailand OR Bali.

Wrong. It is totally tolerated here.  In Chaiyaphum where my wife is from the signs read “if drunk please drive slow”
