Georgealbert Posted Monday at 07:01 AM Posted Monday at 07:01 AM Picture courtesy of Workpoint A foreign national has ignited debate both online and on the streets of Patong after being filmed urinating in public while walking along a road in the busy Soi Saensabai area, opposite the famous Bangla Road. The incident has drawn widespread criticism on Thai social media, where a video clip and accompanying messages condemning the man’s behaviour quickly went viral. The footage shows the tourist nonchalantly exposing himself and urinating as he walks, sparking concern and disgust among locals and fellow visitors. The clip was originally shared by a local resident who witnessed the act, along with a caption reading: “Look at this! #UnacceptableTourist. Tourist police, please take action. Location: Soi Saensabai, Patong, Phuket!” The post prompted a flood of angry comments, with many expressing disappointment over the perceived decline in the quality of international visitors. Local journalists visited the area shortly after the video emerged and spoke to residents and business owners. They confirmed that the man is a familiar sight in the neighbourhood and has reportedly displayed inappropriate behaviour on multiple occasions. Despite warnings from members of the public, he has shown no willingness to change his conduct. “This kind of behaviour isn’t just disrespectful to Patong residents, it’s disrespectful to Thailand as a whole,” said Ms Rujira, a local vendor in Soi Saensabai. “It damages the image of our tourism industry in the eyes of other visitors.” Residents are now calling for urgent action from relevant authorities, particularly the Tourist Police and Patong Municipality, to enforce the law and hold the individual accountable. “There are more and more low-quality tourists these days, especially those coming under the free visa policy. They’re not helping the tourism sector, they’re causing problems,” Ms Rujira added. As of now, there has been no official response or action reported from the Tourist Police or other responsible agencies. The community, however, remains firm in demanding that authorities act decisively to prevent similar incidents. Adapted by Asean Now from Workpoint 2025-06-02. connda Posted Tuesday at 05:05 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:05 AM This behavior in a lot of conservative US states would get you arrested, charged with a sex crime, labelled a sex offender, thrown into prison, and once out that sex offender label would follow the guy around the rest of his life. I.e., in Texas, Florida, and Georgia. Examples or criminal charges (see at bottom of page for list of criminal sanctions in Florida) Indecent Exposure, Public Lewdness, Lewd or Lascivious Behavior, Public Indecency, Obscenity With that said, this freak should be found, arrested, and deported. This behavior would not be accepted in his home country and his behavior creates problems for the rest of us. Granted though, pulling your car or MC over and peeing on the side of the road is very common here in Thailand if done discreetly. What I don't appreciate is when it is made into a big deal if a farang is doing it which happens too often. Discretion is the key word. However, hanging your Johnson outside your pants and peeing while walking down the street is exhibitionist behavior, it's inherently sexual in nature, it's deviancy, and should be treated as such by the Thai police. This dude needs a swift kick in the balls. Then deported. Criminal Sanctions in Florida for the purposes of providing an example of who similar behavior in that state would be handled by the police and a district attorney. Indecent Exposure: Statute: Florida Statute § 800.03 ("Exposure of sexual organs"). Description: Intentionally exposing genitals in a public place or on private premises visible to the public in a vulgar or indecent manner. Sanctions: Classification: First-degree misdemeanor. Penalties: Up to 1 year in jail. Up to $1,000 fine. Possible probation or community service. Sex Offender Registration: Required for a second or subsequent conviction (Florida Statute § 943.0435). Enhanced Penalties: If the exposure occurs in the presence of a minor under 16, it may be charged as Lewd or Lascivious Exhibition (see below), a felony with harsher penalties. Public Lewdness: Statute: Florida does not use the exact term "Public Lewdness" but addresses similar conduct under Florida Statute § 800.03 (Exposure of Sexual Organs) or § 796.07 (Prohibiting Prostitution and Related Acts, which can include lewd acts in public). Description: Engaging in sexually explicit or offensive acts in public, such as exposing genitals with sexual intent. In Florida, this is typically prosecuted under Indecent Exposure or Lewd or Lascivious Behavior statutes. Sanctions (aligned with § 800.03 for exposure-related acts): Classification: First-degree misdemeanor. Penalties: Up to 1 year in jail. Up to $1,000 fine. Possible probation or community service. Sex Offender Registration: Required for a second or subsequent conviction. Note: If the act involves prostitution or public sexual activity, § 796.07 may apply, with penalties ranging from second-degree misdemeanor (up to 60 days in jail and $500 fine) to felonies for repeat offenses. Lewd or Lascivious Behavior: Statute: Florida Statute § 800.04 (Lewd or Lascivious Offenses). Description: Includes acts like exposing genitals in a lewd or lascivious manner, especially in the presence of a minor under 16, or engaging in sexual acts in public. The most relevant subsection is § 800.04(7) (Lewd or Lascivious Exhibition). Sanctions (for Lewd or Lascivious Exhibition, e.g., exposing genitals to a minor under 16): Classification: Second-degree felony (if victim is under 16). Penalties: Up to 15 years in prison. Up to $10,000 fine. Mandatory sex offender registration (Florida Statute § 943.0435). Possible probation or community control with strict conditions (e.g., no contact with minors). Enhanced Penalties: If the offender is over 18 and the victim is under 12, penalties may increase, and the offense may be classified as a first-degree felony (up to 30 years or life, depending on the act). Public Indecency: Statute: Florida does not have a specific "Public Indecency" statute but addresses similar conduct under § 800.03 (Exposure of Sexual Organs) or § 877.03 (Breach of the Peace/Disorderly Conduct). Description: Non-sexual public acts like urination or nudity that violate community standards may be charged as disorderly conduct, while sexual acts fall under indecent exposure or lewd behavior. Sanctions (for non-sexual public indecency under § 877.03, Disorderly Conduct): Classification: Second-degree misdemeanor. Penalties: Up to 60 days in jail. Up to $500 fine. Possible community service or probation. Note: If the act is deemed sexual (e.g., exposing genitals), it falls under § 800.03 (Indecent Exposure) with the penalties listed above, including potential sex offender registration for repeat offenses. Obscenity: Statute: Florida Statute § 847.011 (Prohibiting Obscene Material) and § 847.0133 (Obscenity Involving Minors). That said.. the "Tarnishing the reputation of Thailand" angle is a bit rich - Thailand has a very specific reputation which actively attracts such tourists and that reputation is Thailands 'money maker'... 2
