SCB, no more exemption from facial recognition in app

I guess we have to wait until the 20th Sep (note planned maintenance on 20 and 21 Sep) to find out what our daily limits are?

I had to update the SCB app today. I think everyone is forced to, as you cannot open the app until you do.

My daily limit is 30,000, which includes outgoing PromptPay scans.

There is a progress bar that shows your current level of transfers.

I have an SCB Account for over 25 years both Thai Baht and USD but have been out of country for a few years due to family problems, planning return permanently end of this year.   My question is, does this Facial Recognition app appear on ATM’s??  I have my debit card and was planning on using it at Airport upon landing, will this still be possible??  I know the account is still active, as I have been sending money to it to pay Condo fees and they have been auto-paying my Electricity Bill every month for my Condo.  I used to have a 20,000 per day limit on my card, assuming it still works, I should be able to withdraw at ATM in Airport Right ?????

ATMs are still as they have always been when using a debit card. I have never used my banks version of the phone app and intend to hold out as long as I can. Hate the friggin things. ATMs, debit card, cash and the paper bank book. Long may it continue given the grief I constantly read on here ref the app restrictions. Not hopeful though, they want us all in the system with no escape.

Has your daily limit changed - IE was it more than 30k before?

I don't see any changes in mine so perhaps my update is still to happen........

Where exactly is this progress bar you mention?

SCB still are not able to do facial recognition for foreigners. Any mention of facial rec is to do with the SCB Easy app.

Well, that sums it up nicely, I have never used the Mobile App, I do not use my phone for banking - YET.  I am well versed on new technology and safety issues and non-issues, but still dont trust using my phone for any financial transactions.  No need.  I am quite happy using an ATM or going inside a bank.  Thank you

Not sure exactly. I think I could set it at between 0 and 50,000. And I had it set at 25,000.

The 'progress bar' is in Settings (3 hroizontal bars lower right), Settings, Manage Personal Limit, top of screen

Exemption was one of the reasons why I still have this account.

When I tried to setup at the branch (last year?) they were incapable to do for foreigners.

At Bangkok Bank installed but working terribly unreliable.

Stupid grinning.

The due date of June 9 is also brazen. Today and tomorrow to fix.

Will visit branch and decide on the spot whether setup or close accounts.

Never managed to get BB facial recognition working and neither could my branch

So what did the update that finished this morning actually do? There's another one coming on 5 October.

I have just received notification that facial rec is now available from yesterday - see new thread -

So no idea unless they are then going to implement some other 'restrictions' perhaps.......

A popular YouTube vloggers reported success yesterday.

Too late for me, accounts closed months ago.

I had a 3 month exemption via the call centre. That has now gone since yesterday and I'm back to 50k/200k. I don't have salary slips or a  salary certificate (what is that anyway?) nor do I have annual tax payment information. So I'm stuck at first base. Looks like I'm off to a branch to see what can be one.

Let us know what they say but my guess is with facial rec you should hopefully be able to increase that.

No, not yet.

Will attempt this week.

I didn't close accounts with them bcoz they offer RIPPLE , which no other Thai bank offers.

Nice lady, she was joking it was such a protracted process. She took some photos of my mug, scanned all my passport pages and entered a few questions into a system, occupation, telephone number, email address. I was also enrolled into the e-passbook (about time they got rid of those passbooks!). She then said to update limits I need to call the call center. I just did, and I was told I didn't need to. The app isn't very clear about this ('Change transaction limit with face scan'), but she said anything ABOVE that number (In my case it says 50k) will require a face scan and their isn't an upper limit that can be changed on the app. "You can send 2m at one time with face scan", was her answer. Mine is still maxed out at 50k. I then checked by sending 100k to K Bank, and it worked WITHOUT a face scan. So I'm lost If I actually achieved anything today.

How does that work for use at immigration?
Use statement?

It did cross my mind...

Yesterday, north of Bangkok, I went to SCB for facial scan recognition after receiving a message on the app. I visited the local branch with my pink ID that I opened the account with along with the bankbook. They took my photo, scanned my ID, and I just had to sign on their iPad — the whole process only took a few seconds. Everything is working now; I even tested it by transferring over 50,000 THB!!

I lived in Thailand for 26 years, returned to the US 3 years ago, still have an active SCB account.  I called their office today to inquire about facial recognition.  They told me I can continue to use SCB Easy for transfers of less than 50,000 without facial recognition.  If I need to transfer more than 50k, I can call for a waiver.

After I finished the call, I made a transfer of 10k using SCB Easy.  No problem

Assuming that your experience is typical, good to hear that SCB take the photo themselves instead of you having to provide one yourself!

What I personally find puzzling is the rationale for the apparent head-long dash among Thai banks to withdraw their internet banking services (where SCB were, of course, the first off the block). No bank back in my home country (UK) has, as far as I know, threatened to do the same. So, if they are still able to provide internet banking services for the benefit of their account holders in a secure manner, then why on earth are their Thai counterparts apparently incapable of doing the same? Doesn't reflect too well on the Thai banking sector, I think!

I haven't heard of any bank withdrawing internet service here. As for UK banks; I manage my fathers Natwest, and wow do you have to jump through hoops to transfer money or pay bills. Every other question is, 'Do you know this person', 'Are you sure you trust this bill'. 'Do you know what a scam is' as you navigate to do something. I still have a 1000 Pound transfer limit/Bill payment limit. "Sorry for this amount you will have to come into the branch". It's not just Thailand. Anyway, this Thailand issue its about mule accounts and being scammed, not the tech.

Then you missed it.

Happened with SCB 2 years ago. Long thread on here about it.

For the avoidance of all doubt we are talking about being able to log into your account via a web browser whether on a pc/tablet or mobile phone.

Accomplished it today, face scan works flawlessly in SCB. I was able to transfer 500,000 THB today.

Limit restored to 2 mill thb

It's only for business accounts, ripple doesn't work for individual accounts

Krungsri are withdrawing Internet banking for regular users and anyone that wants to keep it is migrating to Krungsri Biz.  From there they will be able to use Ripple.
