Personally I don't like the "Thumb-Down" emoji  Screenshotfrom2025-06-1016-26-42.png.04e537e3e8a482073bb7987622a2645a.png  It's often overused and it's impossible to tell the context.
Example:
I like hamburgers!   Screenshotfrom2025-06-1016-26-42.png.04e537e3e8a482073bb7987622a2645a.png 😕

It's hard to tell who is Down-Thumb-ing what and for what reasons.  And it's just sorta crude imho.  But let's have a Poll.

Huh?  I didn't know there was a Thumb-Down emoji.  I thought those were "Hearts."  👈 (half the time this is me <laughs>)

And.....Why?

I would get rid of the heart broken which no one really uses and replace with sad face, maybe people would use the sad face instead of thumb down.

Another forum I use and Facebook you can see who gives the emoji which I think is better

That didn't take long.

Agree on the heart broken, but I would replace it with the confused one. It was perfect for posts and opinions that were so stupid or bizarre that no other reaction covered it: confused summed it up perfectly.

Return all the emojis , let everyone see who issued the emoji

and stop censoring due to emoji issuance, if a person can't handle receiving a simple emoji they should just go cry in the corner and not bother the moderators IMHO !!

The accuracy of my post is what bothered you

Please bring back the Sad and Confused emojis.

I was just thinking the same thing, putting a poll for this subject. Not a fan of the down-thumb. Just exacerbates a forum with an already angry bunch of trolls.

Youtube only has Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down. If you upload a video on Youtube, you will inevitably get some Thumbs Down. It show a percentage of people who don't like your video, which is a useful tool to create future videos and try to guess why people don't like it.

But it's used very badly and incorrectly on AN. Often, posters carry grudges from previous conversations and then get revenge by giving a Thumbs Down, no matter what the person posts. It's just because they don't like you.

And lastly, people overreact to Thumbs Down. It doesn't bother me at all. I don't expect everyone to agree with everything I say and I don't care if people don't agree.

I agree 100%.

The thumb down Emoji is a nuisance and absolutely BS.

Only if ALL emojis connected with the member Nick-Name it will make sense.

Then, and only then you could answer ans ask why there is a thumb down.

In addition it's easy to name the stalkers .

At present I'm not looking for emoticons I receive.

I know I have followers who give me every day the thumb down, just because they can. Laughable, yes.

You deserved it too.

And that's a compelling argument to keep it.

As a deterrent for people to keep posting their crap over and over after a flood of negative emojis.

I would like to understand how the Popular Contributors on the right side of my browsers works.

I think prior to the thumbs down you got a point for any emoji on your posts. I believe a very unpopular member just posted thousands of post daily to be on the leader board. I believe the thumbs down takes away from the  Popular Contributors stats and that poster is no longer in the Popular Contributors.

If they do away with the thumbs down they should remove the Popular Contributors as well.

I love the thumb down emoji, I just don't understand why we need so many emojis. Less would be more.

  • Popular Post

What I don't like is it's anonymised. If it was like things used to be when IDs were linked to emojis there would be a lot less thumbs down emojis.

Doesnt affect me in the slightest. They wish they could hide my posts but have to settle for a pointless thumbs down instead

Yes, and I think it's incredibly childish, I don't know any other forum that did this. Posters should see who reacts to their posts, same as they see who replies.
