Israel said it agreed to US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal following its military successes in Iran, in a statement on behalf of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

The statement – Israel’s first official comments about the ceasefire – said Israel had achieved all of its objectives “and far beyond” after nearly two weeks of strikes on Iran.

“Israel has eliminated an immediate and dual existential threat — both in the nuclear domain and in the realm of ballistic missiles,” the statement said.

“Additionally, the IDF has achieved full aerial control over Tehran’s skies, dealt a severe blow to the Iranian military leadership, and destroyed dozens of key regime targets in Iran.”

Israel thanked Trump and the US for its military support “in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat.”

“Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire,” the statement warned.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said the IDF has set back by at least two years Tehran’s ability to attain nuclear arms, and hinted that Israel could make regime change in Iran an official aim of the war.

 

“According to the assessment we hear, we already delayed for at least two or three years the possibility for them to have a nuclear bomb,” Sa’ar told German newspaper Bild in an interview published and broadcast on Saturday.

NB so Israel had obtained a 2-3 year halt to Iran's attaining nuclear arms BEFORE the US bombing.

Israel and Iran on Tuesday accepted a ceasefire plan proposed by President Donald Trump to end their 12-day war that roiled the Middle East, after Tehran launched a limited, retaliatory missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar.

The acceptance of the deal by both sides came after Iran launched a final onslaught of missiles targeting Israel that killed at least four people early Tuesday morning, while Israel launched a blitz of airstrikes targeting sites across the Islamic Republic before dawn.

However, Israel’s military said it had detected another Iranian barrage hours after the start of the ceasefire, showing how dangerous the situation remained. Sirens sounded in northern Israel and explosions could be heard as Israeli air defenses fired.

Tehran was reeling from the attacks and tried to save face with a military response but without provoking a cycle of escalation and even regime change  it can't afford. It will buy time for Iran to re-group and bargain for sanction reliefs as a trade-off for denuclearization plan.

I've just seen Trump address the press before getting on the chopper to head of to the base to get on Airforce One to head off to the NATO summit. WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That man was not happy. Really not happy with Israel and got stuck in to CNN and the "fake news" in a big way. I've never seen him unload like that.

Edit: Seems to be he said "they don't know what the f***k they're doing" in relation to Israel. Not a happy chappy.
