Paetongtarn Stands Firm as Senators Demand Ouster Over Cambodia Remarks

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has firmly dismissed concerns over any potential damage caused by her private phone chat with Cambodian leader Hun Sen.

The call, made on 15 June and later exposed, discussed the Thai-Cambodian border issue. Paetongtarn reassured reporters at Government House that her remarks have not harmed Thailand, and she is prepared to explain herself in court if required.

The Constitutional Court is set to decide next month whether to consider an impeachment motion against Paetongtarn, filed by senators aligned with the former coalition partner Bhumjaithai.

These senators argue that her conversation with Hun Sen has been detrimental to the nation's interests and could justify removing her from office. Paetongtarn's familial ties to Thaksin Shinawatra, a significant political figure, add another layer of complexity to the situation.

During the phone call, Paetongtarn referred to Hun Sen as "uncle" and described Thailand’s Lt.Gen. Boonsin Padklang as being on the opposing side. She also offered to accommodate any requests from the Cambodian leader.

Despite mounting pressure and accusations of subservient behaviour that could undermine Thailand's territorial integrity, Paetongtarn remains steadfast in her position and has not offered further comments on calls for her resignation.

The situation underscores a critical moment for Thailand’s leadership, with Paetongtarn navigating both personal and political challenges. As the court deliberates, the outcome could have significant implications for her premiership and the country's diplomatic posture.

In Reuters news the Pm has stated she has the full confidence of the party and she will not leave her position as PM. She also claims that the reshuffle in the cabinet will stop any motions. There is currently a scheduled meeting to make a vote of no confidence with her which she claims will not be a problem.

Seems Thaksin is pulling a lot of strings to end this problem whilst keeping her in office. What is clear is that she has downplayed the whole call and rather than apologizing for saying such things to Hun Sen. She instead is apologizing for the leak itself. I hope the protest draws a million people instead of 150,000 and let the political games begin to oust her.

There is an old saying in the Christian holy book.

History proves the only way to get a Shin out is to kick them out.

Considering that there are unelected senators placed in the senaeby the military, I do not care what they argue. Anything that comes out of their mouths should be dismissed immediatly. They have no business being in the senate.

In other words her priority is politeness to anybody in any country who is senior to her. And note, in her call to Mr. Hun Sen in Cambodia she tried to belittle the Thai opposition - absolutely and totally inappropriate and unethical.

Her father seems to think he can re-establish her as a viable and capable Thai PM. Reality is that this is NOT his business.

Agreed big mistake, but they did prevent him from getting Yingluk back, now maybe they are seeking a way to make retirement difficult here.. at least in his palace.

Says clones of the military that has overthrown elected governments twelve times and innuendo now of doing it again.

The senators' definition of what is detrimental to the nation's interests is questionable at best.

John 8:7. Many of the senators who want to remove her are guilty of money laundering and getting elected by corrupt means. The DSI will soon release their report with damning evidence against these senators. I expect many of them will be removed by the Election Committee.

Rinse and repeat, seen this movie before.

Everybody knows she's the proxy, and yes, most likely we will see another coup if she doesn't go.

...Isn't It Pretty Clear What Needs To Be Done...(?)

...Enough Inane Posturing...(?)

Changed in the last election, still worthless but not military appointed. Ended when the Prayuth government was voted out.
