Very true.   Apart from the usual idiots most of the foreigners I’ve known that have encountered big financial losses usually advertised their financial status or were known for big noting themselves.   They got sucked into bad business deals,  relationships & situations destined to fail & we’ve all heard about those . 
Entrapment & extortion is getting popular.   If the scammers know you have solid financial & landed assets it doesn’t take much to plant drugs ( could just be sugar) to set you up.    How much would you pay to avoid a lengthy prison sentence.   I suppose if you hang out with dogs , you’ll get fleas.

My wife told me, if I get a mia noi in Thailand, tell her that any money I receive in my retirement, stops as soon as I am dead!
