Thailand Tightens Alcohol Sales: New Rules Take Effect

And there goes the tourist numbers.

Well done Thailand - you can obviously afford another slump along with the Chinese masses and other nationalities who will go elsewhere and buy alcohol where they are appreciated.

It won't have any impact on tourism. The tourists who are staying at the local  Marriott and paying 10,000 baht a day for their room and  meals, will easily have access to a drink at the lounge. The long term tourists who are staying in a serviced apartment or condo rental will adjust their socializing hours, or just have their drink on their residence terrace. The majority of tourists who are  physically active and/or here with their families, won't care, because they are here for the beach or golf. The majority of tourists who come from the middle east, SE Asia and China won't care either. The only people who will put up a stink are the low end western contingent and no one really cares about them.

I don't agree.. Maybe in the West it seems that it is more regulated, because the laws are being enforced. However here in Thailand a lot of laws, but no enforcement of almost any law if you are a netizen, but for others the RTP even invent new laws. Regulations in the West is to protect the freedom for everybody..

You said it yourself: Enforcement happens in the west that doesn’t happen in Thailand. In the west, they'll always bust you and pin huge fines on you for even minor traffic offences. Western countries have gigantic, parasitic governments that are hugely expensive to support.

Thailand is much more flexible, and cheaper to get yourself out of trouble, which is why we love the place.

I don't ever see the high flyers who are here for golf.

Annoying that while you're our at 3pm doing your grocery shopping you can't pick up a nice bottle of red to take home with that steak.

Armed with the knowledge of the lsales time laws why do you not adjust your shopping time if you need a bottle of red ?

3 to 5pm  no sales is hardly a new thing !

Alcohol is addictive, can kill you if you take too much (5 - 8+ gms per kilo body weight), causes cancer...

If with gms you mean g (grammes, US English: grams), with my bodyweight of 62 kg (kilogrammes), 5 g of alcohol per kg bodyweight would be 310 g alcohol.

With a typical alcohol density of 0.789 g/mL (gramme per millilitre), this is 392 mL.

The red wine of which I drank 250 mL with dinner last night contains 14.5% alcohol, ie I consumed 36.25 mL alcohol. If I got the calculation right, that's 9.25% of the potentially lethal dose of 5 g per kg bodyweight you mentioned.
