As a temporary, non-immigrant resident. (as @Lorry correctly puts it) There are only 2 things that I regard as important. The value of the Thai Baht and the regulations regarding my status here. I do not perceive anything in your post that has any bearing on either.
I know the drill. There have been numerous threads about this over the years and several horror stories like this one.
Not ideal to retire into old age in a country that excludes you from national health care.
And are the public hospitals even up to decent standards compared to back home?
If visa exempt, you might need to obtain a visa, eg tourist visa, to re-enter Thailand, I am going through the process now, I flew to Vientiane, filled out eVisa, had to go to Thai embassy to pay visa fee, am now waiting to, hopefully get it. It can take a few days
