Neta V,

New 2023 430,000bht

S/H  2025 219,000bht

That's nearly 50% depreciation in 2 years.

Neta V price reduction from B549,000 to B403,000 was July 2024

https://autolifethailand.tv/special-discount-official-price-neta-v-ev-thailand-july2024/

120,000 baht discount for NETA V II LITE model from 549,000 to 429,000 baht and 110,000 baht discount for NETA V II SMART model from 569,000 to 459,000 baht, effective from 25 July 2024 onwards.

https://autolifethailand.tv/special-discount-official-price-neta-vii/

Anyone that bought a Neta V in June 2024 would see 60% depreciation in a 12 month period

I understand it was only one third party dealer network for BYD that shutdown in Shandong.

Shandong Qiancheng Holdings Co., Ltd. (山东乾城控股有限公司), BYD‘s core dealer network in Shandong province, has been experiencing a severe operational crisis since April 2025. More than twenty “Qian”-branded 4S dealerships across the province have abruptly closed or suspended operations, leaving showrooms empty and customers without service.

The once-prestigious Jinan Qiansheng store, previously celebrated as “Greater China’s No.1 flagship store of BYD, ” is among the affected dealerships. It now stands virtually empty, with only two staff members remaining on site.

According to public records, Qiancheng was founded in 2014 and rapidly became BYD’s core strategic partner in Shandong. The group operated over 20 BYD dealerships and showrooms across the region, once claiming annual sales of 3 billion yuan (420 million USD) and employing more than 1,200 staff.

In April 2024, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu visited the Qiancheng Group in Jinan, which was widely interpreted as the highest recognition of their status as a core dealer. However, financial troubles were already brewing beneath the surface.

Thailand Govt won't allow import of used cars. When Australia opened up quality second car imports mainly from Japan the overpriced used car market price in Australia dropped by  a massive amount.... Protectionism imposes unnecessary costs on consumers.

I think it’s largely irrelevant to talk about independent car dealers in China.

Mismanagement by independent dealers anywhere other that Thailand is not the subject of this thread.

BYD are one of the world’s largest auto makers and they are growing with consistently increasing market share unlike most legacy manufacturers.  They are not going away anytime soon.

Hows the auto industry in Aus these days ?

Sounds about right for most cars.

Maybe for EVs — but not for ICE, and definitely not for Toyota Hybrids.

The Yaris Cross holds more than three times the value of a Neta V after two years.
That’s not “about right” — that’s just refusing to face reality.

Source:
In Thailand, 2-year-old Yaris Cross listings are around 699,000 THB, down from 799,000 THB — only 13% depreciation.

Yeah I forgot the EV market. The second hand price tanks, but that is not the case with ICE cars.

Not sure it isn't also now the case. Prices of both are dropping because banks are much more reluctant to lend, which does affect secondhand market if buying from a tent. It's a buyer's market now.

I recently bought a 5 year old Volvo XC40 (2L turbo AWD) for under 900K - cost new was something like 2.3 million.

Change names and get another car on the never never... make a few payments then default, car repossed.....rinse and repeat.

how does the bank get their land ?

Businesses are not as foolish. Nobody gives out a loan without looking at the National ID card number which never changes from the day it is first issued to a citizen. The name on the card can be changed for a few Baht, not the number.

Banks are certainly much more cagey about giving loans and mortgages. Maybe I should look into the used car market then. Was waiting to sell my house in Bangkok, but that has been on the market for 2 years now - only two potential buyers so far but the banks turned down their mortgate applications.

And yet it does happen.

In a secondary city 60 km from the provincial capital we have lost four dealers in the last three years: MG, Ford, Honda, and Nissan.  All these brands still have dealers in the capital.

Remaining dealers here are three with a strong model line that Includes diesel pickups and SUVs and longtime farmer loyalty: Toyota, Isuzu, and Mitsubishi.

Ummmm  Yes.  There is no car production in Australia now, aside from a few companies doing LHD to RHD conversions on US trucks like Dodge Ram, Chev Silverado anf Ford F150s.

Aren't MG and BYD and Nissan going bankrupt?

From the op, wouldn't be surprised if half the car manufacturers were going bankrupt.

Yes, Neta's parent company, Zhejiang Hozon New Energy Automobile, has officially entered bankruptcy proceedings. This was initiated after a creditor filed a petition for bankruptcy due to unpaid debts. Neta showrooms in Shanghai have reportedly closed, and the company is undergoing restructuring to revitalize the business.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Bankruptcy Filing:

Zhejiang Hozon New Energy Automobile, the parent company of Neta, has been placed into bankruptcy proceedings.

Creditor Action:

A creditor initiated the proceedings due to unpaid debts, including exhibition printing fees.

Restructuring:

The company is undergoing a formal restructuring process aimed at revitalizing the business.

Financial Difficulties:

The bankruptcy filing reflects significant financial issues for the Chinese carmaker.

Impact on Operations:

Several Neta showrooms in Shanghai have closed, and there are concerns about the impact on overseas markets.

Neta Thailand:

Despite the parent company's bankruptcy, NETA Thailand is not registered as a branch of NETA China and is therefore not directly subject to the bankruptcy.

The car to buy in Thailand now is a used car - the prices are dropping.  A used 6-10 year old car that is in a good condition is a bargain right now. I have been watching prices for many years - used car prices are dropping - new car prices are not dropping at all.

Explain how thats possible.
No market in the world would react like that. If new cars are expensive, used cars are not going to get cheaper, not in any world.

The Company in Australia that converts the USA built F150 from LHD to RHD is Thai owned.

Yes and No,

Those guys up sticks regularly and move around the country where they can make the most money, and I would too.

They aren't involved in the selling, financing, or maintenance of vehicles, nor do they reflect the new car market or official dealerships within Thailand.
