"Cloudflare" suddenly blocking access to website - any ideas?

Recommended Posts

Out of the blue yesterday I could not access a website I have used many times - and recently - because "Cloudflare" suddenly tells me "this content has been restricted" and puts a black screen so I can't log in to the page. Never happened before, and effectively only on the one site.

I looked for actions, but moving round the world on the vpn and changing my IP, emptying caches, all the other standards did not work, neither did updating browsers or reinstalling (F/fox, Opera, google). I don't want to do data-mining or whatever, I just wanted to watch sport, like I did last week.

I always thought this "Cloudflare" was just about verifying how many bicycles in a photo and the like, to prove I'm not Elton. Anyone else getting the cold shoulder from them? Or, it just occurs to me, is this some kind of virus?

is it a potentially dodgy streaming site?

Not sure how to answer that, though I guess it's a p2p jobbie. If it is "dodgy", it wasn't a few days ago. But after months of using it with no squeaking from my threat-protections, I can't understand why it should have kicked in yesterday without me changing any settings anywhere.

I meant dodgy from the aspect of potentially not being completely above board - maybe falling foul of DRM/copyright laws etc. The fact that via VPN you still have no access from a variety of countries means the issue is probably there and nothing to do with your set up.

Perhaps name it so others can try?

Cloudflare is much more and a huge content provider.

And obviously they also provided (mirrored) the content of the site you want to use.

(like they do for Aseannow)

Blocked? Maybe by court decision? Site taken down?

Without a name the discussion remains academic.

Maybe google the site name and see whether there is news about it.

well I use

I hear what you say, but I'm puzzled why it should just suddenly yesterday do this(an hour before the match!). It's an excellent p2p site for sport (sport that I can't otherwise access from TH legally, before anyone accuses me).

My browsers are all set up with adblocks and the rest. There are endless pages on the net about how to bypass this cloudthing, they all just advise ensuring a change of IP address............. Surely this is what you buy a vnp for? Perhaps I'll try Nord's helpline, but I might as well raise the Titanic.......

My tv/film streaming site was cut off this week for legal reasons. It's a dodgy free streaming site that mirrors most of Netflix though a few weeks later.

Cloud fare wasn't mentioned I don't think.

I just started looking for an alternative which I think I've done. I don't watch any sport only films and TV series.

This sh!t happens every so often. The big bust was about 18 months ago when the host servers in India and Vietnam were stopped from operating.  Then we lost everything.  It took ages to replace the lost materials.

No. VPNs are not for your use to commit a crime; no matter how just. I expect if you call up their technical  support you will get short shrift. Basically it looks like you have been committing a crime and you and millions of others have just been stopped.

You have my sympathy

I remember that Cloudflare also does DNS service.

What you can try as a fix is setup Google DNS.

I myself had a problem that a site could not be found/opened. Fixed with changing DNS server.

Ha!

Just tried the original address on the PC and get the cloudflare warning.

cloudflare.jpg

For now just the mobile address:

https://m.livetv.sx/enx/

Can well be used on the desktop.

(no idea how long)

I tried I few links and they all led to some youtube stream?

Not so "dodgy".

Thanks for trying, but I was there a while ago; that site just leads to youtube films, and is thus totally pointless (if one wanted youtube films, one would go to youtube, no?).

I'll give this Google DNS jobbie a go. Pass the time while I can't watch tomorrow night's game!

The fact that via VPN you still have no access from a variety of countries COULD  mean ANY of the following:

1) The site has been "secured" by the country govt - llegal reasons

2) YOUR VPN provider has been blocked ( see #4 )

3) somehow your LOCATION is visible - geographical block

4) your LOCAL provider has restricted your access ( see #2 )

5) your VPN software is not up to date. ( or payment is late ?? )

Good luck.

Edit PS:

See my DM to you.

I read in the WSJ that this is a Cloudfare operation to block bots from vacuuming a website for some company that is building an AI large language model. I have encountered this, too.

Cloud flare now offers websites the option of blocking people using vpns.

It's very useful to block banned trolls rejoining forums under new usernames.

Stop using a VPN and problem gone.

Website works for me both with and without a VPN.

The livetv.sx website works for me.

I did notice in the top left of the home page that it has some instructions for accessing a blocked Live TV (see red box in the image below):

- Method 1 is to use livetv856.me (this site is in Russian but there is an English language option box in the top right corner).
- Method 2 is to use a VPN.
- Method 3 is to access Live TV on its Telegram channel.

You mean you are still getting https://livetv.sx/enx/? That's actually good news (would be better if it was me not you, just kidding).

Nothing artificial about my intelligence! I'm going to see if there is some way to be a real nuisance to this cloudfare mob. BTW, Nord is a good vpn in my experience, but their "support" is actually at least as bad as the problem; 100percent certain AI gibberish.

Thanks to all who took the trouble to check this out, including isaanT. I have tried numerous other links like the one you quoted, just evidently not the correct one. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I asked the experts here on TV.

Hope you all enjoy the Under-20 world cup final on Saturday (well, 0130 Sunday if you're in LoS).

Cloudflare has become the first internet intermediary beyond local residential ISPs, to block access to pirate sites in the UK. Users attempting to access certain pirate sites are greeted with 'Error 451 - Unavailable for Legal Reasons'. In theory, ISP blocking should prevent UK users from even seeing this notice, but a combination of Cloudflare's blocking mechanism and choices made by some VPN users results in a piracy dead end.
