  • Don't knock him, if you lived in Mansfield you would have taken Beirut or Dhaka as better options too.

  • i'm not up to date with the visa rules and regulations. how is it legally possible to simply move to thailand with a young family and decide to live here ?

For what reason are new laws needed?

Because many leave the UK. Trash it. Then use it as a security blanket to come back, and expect us to pay for them.

Also alot of these rich millionaires, go to Dubai. Then good, go there - but then you lose the British passport and citizenship. You'll soon find most would rather stay and pay.

What a selfish man. He has no idea. First Thailand is not cheap unless you buy food in markets covered in flies etc, go to malls and shop or big C and prices are similar or more expensive in Thailand. As for his selfish action, education is way below the uk and it costs especially English program schools, then medical, hospital and the costs. I did the comparisons back in 2019 before we left Thailand and it was the best move ever for my family. Education - both my children in high-school now and looking at a real university education, they have social and my daughter found her love "horses". Their lives are way better here in the UK compared to Thailand. I miss Thailand but more to my family than just my wishes..

Despite earning more, Smith feels trapped by financial pressures. “The prices are sky-high, and the streets are in a state,” he shared on TikTok. “We want to escape this routine.”

It will be the same for him when he's earning 40 000 Baht a month teaching English in Thailand

He's gone for a long holiday.

Wait till he learns it's very expensive to put children into school in Thailand. He claims he is going to home school them which is incredibly selfish in my opinion. Schooling is not just about education.

Wait till he learns his travel insurance will have to be replaced by health insurance in Thailand after a year out of living in the UK, most travel insurances become invalid.

Wait till he learns rental is not that cheap.

Wait till he navigates the visa process.

Thailand is not as cheap as he thinks it is.

He claims he is going to do social media and generate income. Him and the thousands of others.

The UK Needs new laws in this generation that if you leave the country for a year you are no longer a citiizen.

Another idiotic post.

Born to imbeciles.  The poor kids never stood a chance.  Being a member of the British underclass is preferable to joining the Thai underclass.

Everyone is talking about this family from the Thailand angle but none have been to Mansfield which is one of the worst places in the worst county in the North of England.

Mansfield is a sh!thole. And getting his kids out of there is doing them a BIG FAVOUR!

Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their head examined; preferably at an NHS hospital in Mansfield ( book now if you want to be seen in the next 18 months).

I've heard how bad England is many times from people on this forum. I've also talked with quite a few Brits here and asked them about their lives back home. They didn't trash England but most said they didn't like the cold anymore. I can relate, as I moved to Texas from New Jersey because I didn't like the long winters. Just what , besides the weather, is so bad about England, taking politics out of it because that's ridiculous everywhere?

I'm thinking if it was so bad in Mansfield, they could have many other choices in England, especially in the country areas. Picking Thailand isn't the answer, especially for their children.

That girl has to grow up around mostly locals, and seeing how the boys are here, that's not a good choice to make. Home schooling is okay if you do your job, but it doesn't teach the children social skills in a regimented environment, which is more important than most of the subjects you'll learn in school.

They can't work in most jobs here so when that savings runs low, they'll have to leave. Like many have said before, rent, stay 6 months to a year, then decide. But it still comes down to the future of those kids, and that's reason one why I'm taking my daughter back to the US.

Schools are 100x worse in Thailand.   Pollution, has to be at least 10x worse.   Language barrier might be hard on the kids.   House, yea, burn the only real asset they have?  I'm sure the retirement fund will be gone as well.   90% of jobs are not available.   What visa is he going to get?   This sound like some fake Disney story but will end up in a divorce, kids will go back home, future destroyed, money gone, and their 15 minutes of fame won't result in a payout.   Unless this guy has about 50 million baht, there's 0% this works out 10 years from now.  Sure, they can "live" for maybe five years doing nothing...but this is an idiotic move.  I've never seen anyone come to Thailand and make more than in America.   Salaries in America are almost 10x more.

Britain is one of the worst places in the world now.  Very depressing.

Good for him for trying a new life here.

Good luck to him and his family.

Thailand is still remarkably cheaper than anywhere in Europe...and very likely, the UK would seem to be his last choice, and most expat Brits,  if things go sideways.

having been back home for a few months, i have to agree. however, as i said before, if he doesnt have a steady income stream... health insurance for all he night be in for a big surprise. especially the health insurance. with a family of four what are the odds no one gets sick? although thailand is cheaper than the west it isnt what it used to be. soi food is 50-100bht and i doubt a brit family will be living off soi food alone... 12x50=600

600x30=18 000. 18 000bht a month for a family of 4 on soi food alone... no extras. it will add up

There's not enough detail about the plan. I doubt he's hoping to get his feet up at 37. Surely, they've looked into employment opportunities.

Also, where are they staying in Thailand, a resort, Bangkok, or have they looked at cheaper alternatives? Type of accommodation? Many questions unanswered. Good luck to 'em.

Frustrated by soaring bills and dreary weather, Smith, his wife Kim, and their children Noah and Molly will leave Mansfield for Bangkok this November, carrying little more than essentials.

I wish them the best of luck, but dreams alone won't cut it.

I wonder what the parents are going to do for an income?

ENGLAND HAS FALLEN. WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL WOKE LEFTIES DESTROYED THE COUNTRY. My home country of Australia is heading down the same path with woke lefties running the country. Best thing I ever did was to move to Thailand years ago.

I only have one question how's he going to support himself and his family. Paying rent having transport paying insurance school fees medical bills he has nothing what's he going to do here?

I agree it's the best thing I've done also. I'd be still living in SE1 in Bermondsey. Living in a house of 50 m². Paying all those taxes here I have two acres of land two condos, vehicles, bikes, horses dogs cats , yards & friends. But I will go back to London next month for a few months to work and soak up that payments with no income tax. Pay the back years on my state pension. Live in London with money in your pocket like I never used to be able to do when I was working and living there.

Cheapness and prices pail into insignificance when you look at the big picture. Moving half way across the world to escape what was once your home country, now overrun with criminal illegal immigrants that have destroyed the country and all of its values. I know I take the mick and rip the piss out of Thailand. End of the day, I know where I would rather be and it isn't Britain. The British government, both Tory and Labour have destroyed a once great nation.

Again, despite me ripping into this place now but again, could you seriously imagine the Thai people or the Thai government putting up with the <deleted> that the British people have put up with over these past years?

The British government are traitors and should be tried as such and I believe that the death penalty still exists in the UK for this crime. Hang the lot of them, they have sold the Brits down the toilet.

Good luck to this guy, I really hope things work out - for one thing, it won't be the living hell of a <deleted>hole that Britain has become.

You can’t blame any British citizen for wanting to get out of that once great but now dump of an Island.

I still have family there but no desire for even a short visit to that hell hole)

It'll all end in tears and a go-fund-me page
