Agreed. It is a dump. Lamphun is better.

Unfortunately, we passed through but didn't stop on our way to Lampang from CM. Perhaps should have cut the journey short and stopped where you suggested. Certainly couldn't have been any worse.

  • when you have THREE Indian cities in the Top 15, all credibility is completely lost.  and 2 of the 3 are ahead of Osaka and Singapore. 🤣

The Sanctuary of Truth is a fantastic tourist attraction.

What to look at scaffolding and walk around with a stupid safety helmet on 😱

Thailand’s tourism splendour has been firmly recognised, with Chiang Mai being crowned Asia’s best city for 2025 by Travel + Leisure, scoring an impressive 91.94 out of 100.

Is that after the smoke clears ??

They can't be serious. Chiang Mai is a nice little city but.....a muddy stream for a river.

No intercity transit system. Congested and heavily polluted March thru May.

Give me Singapore or Kobe.

How would you know having never been to mueang Lampang, otherwise you wouldn’t have said such a thing, is the same as mueang lamphun but a little smaller.

I had a 5 day trip to Lampang late last year and to be honest, that was about 4 days and 23 hours too long. The only saving grace was that the Space Hotel wasn't too bad. It ticked a box as in:-  place on the list, never to return.

Small rural areas are not for most as everyone has their preferences, though if looking for action, then nothing here for you if you need busy crowded places to busy around in.

I suspect that the decimal place might be in the wrong place, especially since most of them need a calculator to subtract 1 from 100.

I love Chiang Mai but can't really argue with that, as much as it pains me.

Where is the 'I haven't got a flying feck what you are talking about' emoji when you need one. At least reference a post if you are going to be so random.

Thankfully the national treasure that is this French baker has taught staff, and even though he now sold L'Opera the sale with the same staff retained ensures continuity.

The bakery was NOT sold, as the proposed sale fell through.  The owner, Christopho is the only one there now that does any baking as his number two baker left about a month ago.

Only open Tuesday to Sunday 7AM-7pm when it opens.  Closed now but was open earlier today!!

Even better. The master baker is still in charge.

What absolute nonsense. Hoi An is number 5? The list is meaningless.

I'm bored in 24 hours in CM. I have no idea why people go there. And the ridiculous air pollution.

CM #1, Hoi An number 5...tsk

Anyone bored in CM is tired of life.

How anyone could be bored in CM is a mystery.

The city has an endless offering of delights to discover.

Another influence in the world of Karsai is Mantak Chia based in Tao Garden in Doi Saket, near Chiang Mai. Mantak Chia is a well-known protagonist of Taoist health systems, including genital massage and sexual health that he structured into Healing Tao. Healing Tao has been very successful in promoting and commercializing the practice of sexual health all over the world. This is not to say Healing Tao is the inventor of it, as some people like to believe, rather it served as a major catalyst that integrated, structured and especially commercialized various practices. Chi Nei Tsang is an integral part of Healing Tao and of Karsai, that he named Karsai Nei Tsang.

One.

Dining in Chiang Mai is an adventure, and chef’s table experiences elevate it to a unique level. Imagine sitting close to a skilled chef as they craft dishes from fresh, local ingredients, turning the act of cooking into an art form. The mingling aromas of Thai herbs, sizzling proteins, and delicate sauces create an ambiance that’s immersive and unforgettable.

Chef’s table venues in Chiang Mai showcase creativity and skill, blending traditional Northern Thai flavors with innovative techniques. These experiences connect diners to the heart of the city’s culinary culture, offering a front-row seat to bold flavors, stunning presentation, and memorable storytelling.

Singapore is boring. Tokyo expensive.

Change Mai, suffocating.

Was about 25 years ago, then they closed the only go go bar, not much there now.
