A Frenchman in Phuket faces backlash after being accused of attempting to bury his Siberian Husky alive. The incident has sparked an online outcry as local and international communities rally for animal welfare.

The controversy erupted when a foreign woman in Phuket raised the alarm in an online community on 17th July. She reported hearing disturbing howls from her neighbour’s property, and later witnessed the Frenchman burying a dog in his garden.

Local public figures and administrators of a Facebook page acted swiftly by coordinating with authorities and the Soi Dog Foundation to rescue the animal. The poorly treated Husky, alongside two other dogs from the home, was transferred into the foundation’s care for rehabilitation.

Franck Bernard Marie Bayard, a 61-year-old French expatriate, became the centre of a social media storm. Netizens from Thailand and beyond were quick to criticise him, labelling his actions as animal cruelty and questioning his mental state.

In a bid to clarify his actions, Bayard spoke to the Phuket Times. He claimed that he genuinely believed the Husky had passed away and had no intention of harming the animal. Bayard, who has resided in Phuket with his Thai wife for over two decades, explained that he runs a local business and was shocked by the backlash.

The incident has raised broader questions about animal welfare laws and enforcement in Thailand. While the country does have measures in place to protect animals, critics argue that more needs to be done to prevent such incidents.

This event has highlighted the role of social media in advocating for animal rights, showing how quickly a local issue can gain international traction. The involvement of local influencers and activists played a crucial role in ensuring the dogs were removed from potentially harmful conditions.

The Soi Dog Foundation, which took custody of the dogs, is known for its work in providing care and finding homes for rescued animals in Thailand. They have expressed commitment to ensuring the well-being of the rehabilitated dogs and thanked the community for its swift response.

As the story continues to unfold, questions remain about how similar situations can be prevented in the future. The incident has prompted discussions around increasing awareness and education on animal welfare among pet owners in Thailand.

Animal rights activists are urging for stricter regulations and better resources to aid enforcement. They believe prevention and education are key to protecting vulnerable animals from neglect and abuse.

The situation serves as a stark reminder of the responsibility that comes with pet ownership and the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of all animals. As authorities continue to investigate, many hope this incident brings about positive change and reinforces the message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated.

Time for him to experience the same......

  • Immediate deportation.  There's something deeply wrong with someone that would do that.  Someone that F'd up in the head doesn't deserve to exist amongst us.   Why blur his face out.  Name,

  • People seem to forget that Thai eat dogs too. Maybe some pictures of trucks full of dogs in cages ready to go to Laos to get savagely butchered.   Yes what this guy did was awful ,

So many negative comments on this thread. Here's an alternative view of the circumstances.

It's sometimes very difficult to be certain that someone is dead, whether a human or a dog. There are many stories of humans being declared dead, but who mysteriously come back to life, sometimes, fortunately, before they have been buried, but sometimes after they've been buried.

The owner of this dog might have been aware of this history of humans coming back to life in a coffin, furiously scratching the coffin lid to try to escape.

Perhaps he loved his dog so much that when he buried it, he decided to leave its head above the ground, just in case it was not really dead.

or perhaps.. he did bury the head but did not make it deep and the dog pushed its head up out of the loose ground. Or maybe it is just simply a zombie dog.

Humans eat animals like beef, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks, pigeons, all kinds of fish, etc... So what?

So you think that the animals that serve as food for humans are tortured before slaughter...what country are you from, Dumbo...

Dunno.. I reckon this guy was a bit effed up. Just imagine being how tough it could be if you were French and looked like a Brit.

Good to see he has been identified and hopefully karma will come into play.

Embarrassed? don't make me laugh. I'd just prefer to stick to the topic: undead dog and BBG.

We are on topic, you said the blokes physical condition was a Brit trait, now I take that as an insult to other Brits.

You have shown you are just a wimp behind a keyboard to insult in safety...🤥
