A 46-year-old woman was apprehended for using a karaoke bar in Udon Thani as a facade for trafficking teenagers. Sirijanya was arrested after allegedly recruiting three 16-year-old girls into prostitution, pocketing a commission of 300 baht each time.

Acting on the orders of Police Major General Songklot Gerkkritaya, a task force led by Police Colonel Sarawut Chantawong and Police Lieutenant Colonel Saksit Nilmith detained Sirijanya. The arrest unfolded at the karaoke venue in Ban Dung subdistrict, Udon Thani province, where unlawful activities had been taking place.

Initial investigations revealed the troubling involvement of minors at the karaoke bar. Undercover operations were set up, revealing the exploitation. Agents discovered the girls offering services for 1,500 baht each, with transactions facilitated by Sirijanya.

The sting operation advanced to a nearby resort, where they apprehended the girls after receiving payment. At that moment, officers moved in, seizing Sirijanya along with 4,300 baht in cash, which confirmed her role in the illegal scheme.

During questioning, Sirijanya admitted to owning the establishment and orchestrating the prostitution of minors. She confessed to keeping 300 baht from each fee of 1,500 baht, distributing the rest to the girls as payment.

The young victims, named only as A, B, and C, were taken into care by appropriate agencies, ensuring their safety and welfare after the ordeal.

In a related incident, authorities recently cracked down on a massage parlour in Mueang district, Lop Buri, for similar illegal activities. Disguised as customers, police officers investigated and uncovered prostitution services offered alongside massages.

Police Major General Songkrod Krikkritaya ordered this raid, leading to the arrest of 30-year-old Wilaiwan. She faces charges for soliciting prostitution and operating a brothel, underlining an ongoing fight against human trafficking and exploitation in the region.

This series of arrests indicates a significant effort by law enforcement to clamp down on human trafficking networks and ensure the protection of minors across the country.

How do you investigate crimes like this to find "evidence" 🙂

Someone reported it.  Maybe another bar.  Or, one of the girls told a friend who then told an adult who reported it.

Or, maybe even a customer anonymously.  Could be many ways.

Sick f*&k. 300 baht each huh? Your freedom isn't worth more than that? LOCK HER UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY!

Well, with 16 a bit young to start a new job, isn't it?

One of the issues with these kinds of news reports is the blurring / erasing of the line between actual human trafficking (which does occur here for sure) vs. "voluntary" prostitution involving minors.

Underage prostitution is illegal and those responsible for it  should face the legal consequences for breaking the law.

But, IMHO, there's also a big degree of difference between a woman like the suspect here "allowing" minors to engage in an illegal activity of prostitution (which is nonetheless widespread in Thailand) vs. forcing / coercing minors into prostitution against their will.

It's entirely unclear from the news reported in the OP which of the two scenarios was occurring here.

The news report, to the extent its details can be believed as accurate, says the woman is facing charges of "soliciting prostitution and operating a brothel."  It does NOT say, at least, that she's being charged with human trafficking offenses.

The karaoke bar was just a front it was really a school where the girls go to learn their trade before catching a flight on the new route fron Udon to U-Tapao and Pattaya.

Set up a sting operation...

Negotiate an arrangement and fee, hand over the money... when the girls turn up...

Done

What sounds like they closed a few places but the majority of them still stay open and will be doing business tonight as usual TIT

I would question whether or not what she was doing was actual trafficking, versus hiring 16-year-olds who are willingly having sex for money. I'm not trying to legitimize what she was doing, however I think that word trafficking is about as overused as the word terrorism.
