A house fire on the morning of 23 July, has claimed the life of a 72-year-old woman in the Charan Sanitwong area of Bangkok. The victim was found unresponsive after apparently succumbing to smoke inhalation, lying near a household Buddhist shrine. A pet dog was also found dead beside her.

Police were alerted to the blaze at around 06:00. Pol Sub-Lt Wirat Mentakul of Bangkok Noi Police Station led emergency responders, including firefighters, medics from Siriraj Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation, to the scene in the Bang Khun Si subdistrict of Bangkok Noi.

The fire occurred in a single-storey residence, which was heavily smoke-logged when authorities arrived. Firefighters quickly ventilated the structure, where they discovered the deceased woman, named Ms. Suntharalak, lying unconscious on the floor. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, the fire is believed to have started due to an electrical short circuit involving an extension cable, which ignited nearby bedding and furniture. The woman is thought to have died from smoke inhalation before she could escape.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and to confirm whether faulty wiring was solely to blame.
